Which is impossible because you guys have been pretty adamant that we are the best drafting team in the league.

DALLAS COWBOYS: C-

Round 2: (No. 58 overall) Trysten Hill, DT, 7 games/0 starts.
Round 3: (90) Connor McGovern, OG, 0 games/0 starts.
Round 4: (128) Tony Pollard, RB, 15 games/0 starts.
Round 5: (158) Mike Jackson, CB, 0 games/0 starts (1 game/0 starts with Lions); (165) Joe Jackson, DE, 5 games/0 starts.
Round 6: (213) Donovan Wilson, S, 11 games/0 starts.
Round 7: (218) Mike Weber, RB, 0 games/0 starts (spent most of '19 on Cowboys' practice squad before heading to Chiefs' practice squad); (241) Jalen Jelks, DE, 0 games/0 starts.
Notable rookie FA signing: Brandon Knight, OT, 7 games/1 start.

Shook: The Cowboys' greatest contribution from this class came from Pollard, who served as an effective spell back to Ezekiel Elliott, rushing 86 times for 455 yards and two scores. The rest of the group wasn't able to do all that much. Wilson's footprint was limited to special teams. Hill played 121 defensive snaps but recorded just five tackles. As shown above, no draft picks made a single start. Jelks and McGovern headed to injured reserve in September, while Weber ended up with the Kansas City Chiefs on their practice squad. Mike Jackson ended up with the Detroit Lions.

I'm shook right now.

Show me where anyone here said the Cowboys were the best drafting team in the league? As for 2019, THEY DIDN’T HAVE A 1ST ROUND PICK KNUKLEHEAD. So that really skews the grade a bit.

I forgot that Fan Boys are allowed to insult posters here.

I really think one should be able to spell knucklehead if they are going to use the word.

Last, Bears had no 1st and 2nd round pick and received a higher grade.

The Browns had no 1st round pick and were ranked 17th.

The Rams had no 1st round pick and were ranked 16th.

The Colts had no 1st round pick and were ranked 15th.

The Chiefs had no 1st round pick and were ranked 13th, including the player we should have taken at 58, Juan Thornhill.

The Saints had no 1st round pick and were ranked 9th.

I'm wondering if it "skewed" their grade at all?

But don't let these rankings influence your thinking, GO COWBOYS!

Hall of Fame worthy rebuttal. And then the follow up response...Classic childish immaturity right on cue.
Truly Priceless. Appreciate the comic relief before my work shift. Good on ya bro.

I'll go out on a twig and say if we revisit this post this time next year Hill, McGovern, Pollard, Jelks, and Knight will be contributors of some fashion. But yeah...yuk.
If hill gets on track and kills developed that would be huge
I liked the little of what I saw from knight and I have no doubt McGovern can play but was drafted for depth I think to begin with

I'm shook right now.

So far, it definitely wasn't one of our best.

Hill needs a lot of development and could never get to where he needs to be.

We have no clue about McGovern because of his injury.

Pollard was a solid fourth-round pick.

Neither Jackson looked particularly good although Joe Jackson at least made some plays in the preseason.

Wilson flashed skills in the preseason, got hurt and was never really heard from again.

Weber was a puzzling pick considering we drafted Pollard and didn't do much in the preseason.

Jelks also made some plays in the preseason before getting hurt and being put on IR.

So there are a lot of questions with this group up to this point, but even if they all fail, that sometimes happens to all teams.

Posted once again.....

That drafts no reflection on how good or bad we draft. They didn't have a 1st pick. McGovern was hurt for the year.

Next season they will be much better. I believe McGovern, Wilson, Pollard and Joe Jackson will be significant contributors next season. Hill is the question mark but that draft can still be successful even without him.

We need those guys to make a big jump next season though for sure.

This was a topic of discussion on a NYG board(about how terrible Jerry Reece was) and when you went back(they went from 2011 to 2016) Dallas was actually at the top for players still on the team or in the NFL in 2019.

Dallas had 14 players on the roster last year and 11 active in NFL. That's 25 players over 6 years for an average of 4 players per draft.

This is the problem when drafts are assessed. It's done in a vacuum. If you compare Dallas to the rest of the league they have done really, really well.

Last year's draft was unusual considering there were no open starting spots except for maybe LG. Last years draft plays well into this year with all the free agents. In 2020 the 2019 draft class will have the impact it that the fanbase and pundits were expecting.

Great post.
My views on the first 3 rds of the past 3 drafts are that the 2017-19 drafts are still developing (3 year theory) and can turn towards poor or good really fast based off this year's performances.

The 2017 dud was Taco with Chido and Lewis still incompletes. Chido really showed problems manning up larger receivers last year and Lewis had limited snaps. Hopeful improvement for both.

2018 has me pessimistic on LVE but none of us are qualified medical doctors so I'll stand by. Connor Williams was a slight head scratcher(as I'll follow up later) but I love the Gallup pick. Value and performance is promising.

2019's Trysten Hill really does feel like Taco Part 2 and both 2 picks attributed to a recently fired DC so hopefully lessons learned.

Kinda loved the McGovern pick as I personally thought him a better player than Williams so I hated the unfortunate injury and this is where the Williams pick from the previous year throws me off. Collins subsequent contract extension kinda supported my confusion on the two of them being chosen early in back to back years.

Love the Pollard pick. Same as my Gallup comments.

Again, great post. I pay attention to the Giants cuz my best friend is a fan. Jerry "Reach" and "No second Contract Jerry" are some of the humor we shared on their previous GM.

My views here are but another novice eyeball test fan perspective.

PS 2019 was rds 2 -4 obviously.
