Good thing the 'boys haven't signed a 33M QB just yet, because in the cap era; that would be a huge mistake,.

40M would be a catastrophe .

They’re going to.

The Cowboys are not really trendsetters. They’re usually late to the party when it comes to things like this.

Overpaid in this market would be 40M. I would bet the deal ends up at 38M.

The real problem now is that this number won't be agreed upon until camp. Deadlines and all, per Stephen. And that means Dak won't be ready for the season with a new system, and year one of the deal is a waste.

Ill be sick if we are foolish enough to approach it that way.

Dak feasted on bum teams but faltered in the face real competition. look at his record against winning teams last season and you'll realize Dallas needs to franchise tag this QB for now and give him next season to prove he can clear that hurdle.

Dak did nothing against talented opponents to make me feel good about $30MM or more per season. And I don't even have to pay the guy. Imagine how hard the Joneses are looking at that kind of money for Dak.

If they were sold on him last offseason they should've got a deal done. I wasnt sold on him until after this season. Think hes a good top 12 qb now.

This feels somewhat like the Kirk Cousins thing in Washington D.C. except the Commanders were kinda open about not liking or trusting him and the Cowboys say Dak is the same caliber of QB as Tom Brady is. Who knows what is going down with this F.O. they obviously didn't have a concrete plan before Dak's fourth season to get him under contract or an actual contingency for a new QB to get if it was an absurd angle like the 40 million thing.
kinda funny just realized wash had their own JG as HC lol. Only they got rid of him as soon as they got their new rd 1 qb. Now rivera has to work with haskins,
but it is a cheap deal for 3 more years.
Dak could be plannng on doing what kirk did too, play on tag for 2 years then take a big contract with another team.

Dak has made a statement about he is ok playing on the tag since he pays so much, and he is used to playing for peanuts.

Good discussion. Compares Dak and Goff and asks if the Rams are regretting their stupid decision of signing their mediocre player.

Goff was a high rd 1 pick, and did good enough his 2nd year to justify getting paid.
What could they do trade him maybe, or let him walk and draft another one.
The rams got to a SB with goff, and it wasnt just goff being why they lost at SB.

But @ the title of the thread, cowboys should have extended dak after the 2018 season, and made a good offer, and they would have him
signed at probably under 30 mil, he deserved a pay raise then, but they waited too long then came at him with a cheapo offer.

Jerry being stupid and short sighted is as common as rain in Seattle.

It is going to cost them.

Its why I have a suspicion that he won’t be here next year, and certainly not in 2021. Jerry just isn’t that dumb. He’s not going to delay two years then sign an average quarterback to a $40 million dollar contract.

Theyre going to franchise him, then move up and draft a quarterback while Prescott plays out the year as a lame duck quarterback. OR they will trade him and use those picks as ammo to move up, while starting Brady or Bridgewater at quarterback.

It’s so obvious yet people are in denial. Always with the Joneses, always, watch what they do not what they say.

I live in Vancouver where we get a few inches more than Seattle. It can be a nightmare. Temperate climate but 45 inches of rain a year, most from October through April so it is really gross. Nothing worse than 5 celcius in December (42 degrees for you guys) and cold wet rain. It goes right through you. Now in fairness, we also get 2000 hours of sun a year given our really long days 16 hours of sun in June and July

Id imagine it can be hard on your spirits going without sun for weeks at a time. Probably not an awful trade off though, because Im sure its beautiful up there.

DO NOT WAIT FOR MAHOMES.

100% agreed, although Dak isn't close to Mahomes imo. His agent wont care and he has enough stats to back up his case. Agents dont care about context. I think our FO got put in a predicament with Dak after his 2017 season. He was bad (as was the whole team) in 2017, then the slow start to 2018 served to increase whatever doubts they may have had. He finished off strong though and began 2019 on a tear. As we know his price tag seemed to go up with each game. Unfortunately it doesn't go back down after the poor outings and our end of season let down. Which has to leave them thinking he isn't worth 35-36 a year. Problem being thats the market. Weve heard whispers about the length of the contract being the issue. Dak wants a shorter contract so he can cash in again and we want to lock him in so we can get value towards the end of the deal. I hope we give him the shorter deal and move forward. As much as I like Dak I still have my doubts and believe a shorter deal may be better for the team.

Dak is much better than average. 40mm, if that’s true, he is not worth that. I am starting to believe Dak won’t be here. Probability of that has increased for sure. Thinking that Jerry Jones can draft and help develop a new QB is folly. That moron stumbled into his last 2. Totally lucky. Had extremely beneficial contracts with both in the beginning and did zero with it. Zero.

Based upon the likelihood that Dak's contract price will escalate with the passage of time, it might have been best if he were signed by now. Of course, it remains to be seen what could be in the works at this time, so it's anyone's guess if the delay was worth it or not. I imagine we're all hoping it works out well for both sides. I'd venture to say whatever happens will be dealt with as suitably as possible, under the circumstances. ;)

Jerry is a mediocre GM at best. Not signing the most important player on the team before now is just another bungling move on his part.

It’s going to cost the franchise $ millions in cap space and a possible holdout during important OTAs with a new coach.

Brilliant.

Prepare to be sick. Dak isn't likely going under 38. And Jerry doesn't want him to leave. Unfortunately it's unlikely we can keep enough pieces around him at that cap hit to reach the promised land. But we'll see.
