You dont pay people based on past career numbers.

In terms of importance to a team, it goes QB, pass rusher, left tackle, #1 corner. Running back is way down on the list.

Not only that but Byron was a higher rated corner than Zeke a running back in 2019.

Double whammy paying a guy whose position is less important and is a worse player.

Zeke was second in the league in scrimmage yards in his first season after signing the new deal.

Jones can walk and Dallas can collect that compensatory pick (likely a 2nd or 3rd round pick up).

I watch the highlights on that link and here's what I saw. Two of the plays Jones could have been called for PI. One of them even if Jones hadn't tipped the ball when the receiver jump to get it one foot came down out of bounds and it wouldn't have been a catch anyways. One of the long pass the ball was so high that neither Jones or the receiver had a realistic chance of catching it. And one of the passes Jones was trailing the receiver and was lucky the receiver turn in back toward Jones to run a post instead of keep on going towards the corner where Jones would have been 2 steps behind. Jones may have been the best cover corner the Cowboys had but no picks in 2 full seasons? He had exactly one back in 2017 and 2016 FIVE full seasons and exactly TWO picks. The are backups that have more picks..

Jones can chase a receiver right into his jersey - but does he ever even see the ball in flight? Give me a lesser physically-gifted CB who has some modicum of ball awareness and the ability to contest for the reception. THAT is what QBs FEAR - the corner who will make you PAY for the overly-calculated throw.

All they need fear in Byron Jones is an incompletion. Well, heck... they're gonna throw THOSE at least 40% of the time anyway.
But yet QBs don't throw to Byron Jones side of the field. What you're saying sounds good but on field play doesn't back it up

Unless you can see each angle, watching film from a highlight will never allow you to see anything clearly. That's the problem with the "eye test".

Jones is a bum. Would you pay elite money to a defensive end with zero sacks in two years cause he’s “solid and gets really close to making plays”?

It's not that INT's are the sole judge of DB's. It's that elite CB's get INT's. If Jones didn't want elite money, it wouldn't be as big of a deal. Does he, BTW? Don't know as I remember hearing anything.

What if that DE got close enough to consistently make the QB throw out of bounds?

I'm pretty sure it's all been speculation as to what he's looking to be paid, and what he'd accept, but I can't be sure his camp hasn't come out and stated his intentions.

Fans have been crying about the secondary being overpaid and bust for the last 10 years (Paying players like Hamlin and Carr good money to do nothing, moving up in the draft to get Claiborne and he stunk)

They finally get a reliable no drama #1 cornerback and all they do is cry and give excuses to not keep him.........

And they wonder why this team is mediocre ??

Eerily similar to Champ Bailey situation. He left Commanders for Broncos and had a great career.
Jones is from UConn. Denver be a better fit. Plus Chris Harris is leaving Broncos.

I'd be happy if he returned
Champ was way better than Byron

Not really analogous imo because a sack is less rare than an int, but speaking to the spirit of the question people are losing D Law's lack of sacks to say he wasn't worth his big deal workout looking at the other things he does to make a impact.

Who gives a crap? And Jaylon was top 5 in tackles. And Jamie’s was top two in scrimmage yards. Thank God it’s 2020 and we have better ways to judge player performance.

So do you not pay Quinn and use a first on a DE. Do you not pay Collins and use a first on a DT. How about the other DT position. Do you not pay Dak and use a first on a QB. Do you not pay Amari and use a first on a WR. How about both Safety positions. Let’s not forget about the other LB position.

It’s not has easy as you are making it out to be.
You don’t pay Quinn and let him go. Play randy Gregory until he gets suspended. And draft a DT. And. CB

I wish he would have covered that TE for Green Bay a lot better late in that playoff game a few years ago
