They have and you know it. It's a huge part of your apologist brethren's excuses for sitting out free agency.
Oooh, like the Cowboys have money to spend in free agency? Come on, we all know the Cowboys have to concentrate on paying Dak, Amari and a few other of their unrestricted free agents. That's going to take most of their cap space, so where will they have money available to make some serious moves/pickups in free agency other than their own?

The Cobb, Quinn and Bennett signings paid off as reasonable contracts vs. production.

Zeke and DLaw not so much.

Are the Cowboys limiting themselves at QB1 and WR1 to Dak and Cooper or are there not potential FAs or draft pick options that won't demand a top 3 at their position type contract?

Stephen and McClay might be able to pull it off, just sayin...

You can’t judge a draft class by their performance. Especially if you are a fat cartoon character or a William Wallace fraud, or one in the same.

Dallas has 77 million in cap space. Cutting Crawford will get them to 85 million. Restructuring last years deals for Lawrence, Smith, and Collins will get close to 100 million. And you can still restructure Martin and Frederick to get them well over 100 million.

When Dallas does the deals for their free agents the contracts will be back loaded. 100 million in cap space will let Dallas have the flexibility to sign whatever core players they feel are neccessary.

It seems like a dire situation with all these free agents but the draft and the unsigned free agents will be more important to building success for this team.

NFL.com graded generously a ross the board...afraid to tick anyone off.
We realize that you can’t fully grade until 2-3 years, but there is no way Dallas didn't get an F so far.

No first round pick and 3 ended up on IR.

The others had solid starters ahead of them.

What did you expect? That's why you have to wait 3 years to judge any draft.

My opinion...
Hill is a bust
McGovern contributes next year but not special
Pollard is a stud
Wilson has some talent, wish he would’ve gotten more snaps
Knight contributes backup
Jelks has some talent, see what happens

I'll go out on a twig and say if we revisit this post this time next year Hill, McGovern, Pollard, Jelks, and Knight will be contributors of some fashion. But yeah...yuk.

I agree. But I think we all thought the Cowboys were looking to make a bigger splash coming off that 2018 season. Should they have drafted a project player in round 2? Or a player they think could have an immediate impact? In hindsight it wouldn't have made a difference.

Hopefully, you are right. I understand a few free agents are needed to help improve the team, but let's not bankrupt the team while doing it. I still say the draft is the best way to go...and the cheapest.

to early, the state of the Cowboys is a mess, lets wait til things are sorted out and decisions are made.

its silly to blame players or judge players based on coaches that have been shown the door. silly

The state of the Cowboys is far from being a mess. Maybe you missed it but they’ve hired a new HC and new coaching staff. That’s a positive for me as it was certainly time for Garrett to seek opportunities elsewhere. The bend but don’t break Marinelli defense is gone! That’s another huge positive.

im not disputing that, but you cant toss away Garrett left the mess, let me explain,

this team talent is better than the record.

most games the team could not operate on all cylinders.

NOW some players should be scrapped, but will take time or replace

drafting will need a new philosophy.

off season will need and hopefully have a new direction.

special teams will need an overhaul, we know that we all think we got the right coach

-----------------------

a lot of things are still on the table to see about its new direction.

im aware of a lot more than you give other fans credit, but you have to see the big picture some fans are talking about instead of assuming the worst. lots of conversations going on.

right now the team is a mess, will MM fix it and how so, soon to be determined.

The article was grading the draft class of each team in terms of rookie contributions.

This past year’s draft class for the Cowboys was abysmal in terms of early returns. It doesn’t mean that some of these players won’t develop in time into greater contributors in time......but for 2019 it was baaad.

Why folks can’t wrap their heads around that is comical.

Well.. We had no first round pick so it was always a uphill battle.

Trysten Hill does not look promising.

McGovern? Who knows.. I think he’s a good prospect.

Pollard is a hit.

be interesting to see how the patriots draft looks in a couple of years when tom brady and a few of there top defensive guys are gone in free agency. not a great looking draft but like a few of you guys say it is hard to judge a draft until three years from now.

The Patriots aren’t very good at drafting.

A+ on the draft, you just need to give it 2 more years. :muttley:
Now am I serious or not?

Actually, since it does need a few more years, I will go with a C, but if you add in Cooper, it jumps to a B easily.
I am giving Hill this year to see what a real scheme and coaching staff can do.

I hope that he gets in the weight room and gets stronger. the way that he got pushed around by a bunch of undrafted free agents in last years preseason was awful to watch.

That didn't bother me as much as it did some. He may not have had a very good S&C program from a small school. We know the story with the coaching staff at UCF which of course is blown out of proportion as usual.
The defense coaching and scheme did not help either. I was disappointed but still willing to give him another year to see progress. As I do with every player.
And with a new defense and staff, a year of maturity, who knows what to expect this season. We will see how it goes.
