Trading up for Burrows makes sense

It's just as silly to assume a #1 pick who won the Heisman can't or won't succeed either.
I didn't say he can't succeed. I said its dumb to assume he would. As a matter of fact...if history says anything Burrow is more likely to fail than to succeed if we are looking at the past few drafts of guys taken in the top 5 of the draft.

Too early to tell on Murray.
Tribusky
Wentz
Goff
Mariota
Mayfield
Darnold
Winston

Those were all top picks and they have all performed worse than their status.

Based on this history it seems to be the smarter gamble to get a guy later in the 1st round or later than it does to trade up for a quarterback.

It will be even better to monitor the pro Dak crowd after a full 5 yr contract elapsed with no rings and a new coaching staff and the standard responses will continue that it was everyone else's fault but Daks. That Jerry Jones non accountability disease even manages to affect the fan base somehow.
Don’t worry, they will still be happy... they will have gotten their complimentary bow ties in exchange for being grown men on a message board caping for a QB to break the bank at the expense of the team...

Its not Dak's or this fanbases fault this organization has sucked. They sucked with Romo too. They sucked prior to Romo. Hell they managed to have the best roster in the league and soon as Jimmy left they missed out on the playoffs. How much further do you have to go back to realize what the problem is?

We are chasing for a franchise quarterback when we have one just as good as the one teams have been drafting. Mahomes is the only guy that's been drafted the past 4 seasons that's just better than everyone. But its been Jameis and Mariotta, then Goff and Wentz, then Mayfield and Darnold, then Murray........sorry I'd pay the 30 million to avoid the shot at a Jameis or Mariotta or Goff.

If you have a good, young developing QB who’s improving it’s better to leave well enough alone and allow them to continue to develop. The Commanders have gotten worse since they allowed Cousins to walk. They ended up burning a first round pick on a QB who may not be the answer. The Dolphins traded away Ryan Tannehill who was very productive and they’ve gotten worse while Tannehill and the Titans almost reached the Super Bowl. You don’t draft a QB in the first round, especially in the top 10 unless you have little to nothing at the position.

Your wrong here too. The draft is a crap shoot no argument there but history show quite clearly that QB's taken in the 1st round have a much higher success rate in the NFL than QB's taken in later rounds, it also shows that QB's or any player taken #1 overall have the highest sucess rate of all players taken

You talk about Dak more than any "slobberer" could even imagine. Your secretly his biggest fan on this site because if he does get traded or cut you'd have no relevance on this site and have nothing to talk about.

Nah I would still be here laughing at you, it’s always especially funny when you dabble in statistics and embarrass yourself and the school system that spit you out....

That'll be good too! Im not pro or anti Dak. I don't worry much about things I can't control, but I get a kick out of those that do. Lol!!

I have several detailed posts regarding my opinion on the inability of the Owner/GM, HC and QB to all simultaneously perform their jobs over the last quarter century. The current group of title holders do nothing to change my opinion that these 3 current foundational pieces will continue to maintain that same lack of success that has spanned 2 decades plus. It ain't "just" Jerry either. It's all 3 together.

Let's take a look and see who's on the wrong end here......

2018:
Mayfield and Darnold were top 5 picks. Thus far the best quarterback in the draft has been Lamar Jackson who was a late 1st rounder when the Ravens traded up for him.

2017:
Mitch Tribusky was taken with the 2nd overall pick in the draft:
Mahomes and Watson have been by far superior to him and they were taken I believe 10th and 11th respectively.

2016: My favorite. Jared Goff......best quarterback prospect in the draft. Carson Wentz was considered the 2nd. Now I'm not going to argue Dak is better even though I think he is. Let's just say Dak has been just as good if not better than those guys. Jacoby Brissett is another honorable mention. Hasn't been better than the other 3 but he's faired well thus far for a young quarterback and having to learn two different systems.

2015: Winston and Mariotta.......I guess there's a argument to be made here that Winston is by default the best quarterback in this draft. This has turned out to simply be a terrible draft altogether. Trevor Simien was a 7th round pick....and for arguments sake I wonder how many GM's would rather have Brandon Sheriff/Trevor Simien or if they'd take Marcus Mariotat or Jameis Winston. Either way....I'd say the best prospect this year was Winston but I don't think I want any of them.

2014....Blake Bortles was the top QB picked here........hard to screw this draft up....so many big time players in it but Jags managed to do it.
Teddy Bridgewater, Jimmy Garapolo, Derek Carr....you would've done right by getting any of these guys later on.

So out of all these years....the only favorable one is Winston in 2015 and he has sucked. This wouldn't cause to run away from the 1st overall pick....but it would cause me to think twice before taking one over a guy I know can come right in and be a potential All PRo.

So Jerry is OK with waiting a few years to contend for a SB after his big overhaul splash? I wonder if he let Mike know about that before he signed the contract.

Yep. As I just listed.....you'd do better drafting outside of that top 10 or trading down.

Once you see what Cincinnati is asking for you won't think it makes sense anymore. And you are throwing 2020 away along with your 2021 and maybe 2022 1st round picks.

It would make more sense to let Dak sign with another team and play the season with Cooper Rush at QB. Then when the team finishes 1-15, they will have the first pick in next year's draft when they can take to top QB prospect coming out in 2021. And they would keep all their other draft picks.
I'd spend this whole offseason fixing the defense through free agency and the draft, then get me a QB next year. It doesn't make any sense to me to spend that much capital on a topnotch QB unless you have a topnotch defense already in place.

Let Mike go 7-9 or 8-8 in that stretch with a young quarterback....he'd be fired and essentially be a dead man walking on hire if he had to come in and draft a quarterback.

What happens when he goes 7-9 or 6-10 with Dak?

Yea, lets trade a borderline elite QB that is a locker room stud whom never gets hurt for an unknown commodity. Prescott is not unproven genius, the coaching staff and outdated schemes have been horrendous. Open your eyes man, Prescott is a top talent getting better each year.
Locker room stud? That is sounds good bs. All that matters is can you play. Dak gets hit right he will get hurt too. Nobody is indestructible just lucky. Prescott is a stat padder that suffers from the same problems as his rookie scouting report. I’ll give him he’s managed to fool the average fan that don’t know nothing but numbers and what some talking head says though. He’s good at that.

Well I Don't deny that. If Jerry was the owner of the Patriots they would miss out on the playoffs. You can bring in any coach or player you want but if Jerry's going to continue to be the same guy and continue to run this organization the same? The product will be the same regardless of what player comes through. 49ers were in the same boat. Things had to change. Commanders and Cowboys refuse to change.

Yes yes I agree. But like I said in another thread, the Cowboys simply do not have the draft capital or players that could get them from 17 to 1 in this particular draft.

If I were the Bengals owner I wouldn't even listen to offers from the Cowboys. If the Cowboys get Burrows what do the Bengals get in return? A 17th overall, and if Burrows pans out the Bengals would be getting all late round 1st picks.

The Bengals need a QB and they're sitting at #1 with Burrows in the draft. The Cowboys don't have what it takes to get that pick.

The only way the Cowboys get draft capital is to Transition Tag Dak,have him sign it, then a team will have to offer 2 firsts to sign Dak. Plus,it would have to be an offer from a team that's already sitting high on the draft board...like the Chargers at 6.
The Chargers would give up their 1st this year (6th pick),next years 1st (?)...then we include those two 1st and our own at 17. Maybe then there can be a foundation to start a serious conversation about a deal.
