Mickey Article: do not forget repairing this defense

Actually a pretty good article from Mickey.

Brings up a lot of stats from the past teams. Even what I said a few years back how the defense improved each year since Marinelli took over. Though to me he still failed (Rod) with the scoring, giving up big plays. Finishing is lower yards is still not the answer. Which he mentions, lack of sacks and turnovers and poor run defense was the downfall.

Another stat how under Landry, the defense from 64 to 79 was in the top 10 for all those 16 years. I did not realize that.

Every Cowboys SB team had a top 10 defense. Somewhere this century it became an afterthought.

The focus became all about the QB putting up 30+ to overcome the defense, and we see where that's gotten us.

We can fix this defense this offseason if we replace Dak and Cooper with both of those guys from Colorado. QB Montez and WR Shenault. We could re-sign M.Collins, B.Jones and R.Quinn then bring in SS Justin Simmons and DT Leonard Williams. Add in a couple more defensive players in the draft and we could be top ten easily.

The first step would be not to lose good players on D. Then it's just an uphill battle to get back to where we were let alone fix the problem.

Defense has holes on holes, offense just needs better coaching and execution.

I think its inevitable they will lose some guys. They are going to have to manage to lose some guys, replace them and then fix their holes. Its gonna be tough.

Just goes to show how many flaws LVE was covering up in 2018. Once Richard moved him from the MLB....that defense was never the same.....including 2019. Hopefully McCarthy will be smart enough to get him back where he belongs...and that's in the middle....and build the defense around him.

A lot of people are saying Spags is saying the obvious but the talk of this offseason has been about the offense. Nothing about improving the defense. It has gone forgotten.

Once again you say this but you look at he front page and there's not many threads about the defense. It was the unit that underperformed more than any other unit. Special teams sucked but it should've been expected to suck. The defense was the one unit that has for the most part played above its head.

The threads are due to the contract status of Prescott and Cooper. There were many threads last off-season about DLaw. Those don’t mean people don’t think the defense needs improving more than the offense. The draft threads are focusing on defense, and once we reach free agency there will be more focus on defense.

All the threads about Dak is the same thing over and over. So yes we need more about the defense.

Last year it was not loaded up with DLaw threads, it was mixed with Dak and Cooper and Zeke contracts as well. Also about Moore and will he be a good choice as OC. Of course all the Garrett and Jerry threads too.

Understood. Not saying there isn't talk. I'm just saying most of the discussions is about the offense. Nothing about the defense. We even have some defensive free agents and rarely Byron gets mentioned I guess because he's assumed to be gone.

and I am not saying he was worth it, because obviously he did not play well, as the entire team did not.

But these drive by posts of making a statement but offering nothing to back it up or explain it means nothing but just a whine.
And detail, not oh they could have signed 3 players. Then who and why.
