We should all probably have a discussion about how flawed that defensive philosophy was.

yes the defense focused on keeping opposing scoring down (every defense does)

Yet wasn’t focused on creating turnovers and had zero qualms about allowing the opposing offense to have free yards up and down the field, where they constantly flipped field position and consistently put the cowboys offense in situations where they had to drive the ball 80 yards against good defenses to score.

Cowboys had the worst field position in the league between our brickhanded defense and the consensus worst special teams in the league. Competent special teams alone probably nets the Cowboys two additional wins.

There are better prospects. I would love to see the Cowboys trade up to get Joe Burrows.
I would love to see them make a deal to get Russell Wilson or even Derek Carr.
But the point is that Case Keenum is an easy fix, and if he had been the Cowboys quarterback in 2019 the Cowboys would have been deep into the playoffs.
But because we had Garrett- who decided that Dak was his best chance of keeping his job- we had Dak.

Sorry but I don't subscribe to the "Anybody But Dak Club". Trading up to get Joe Burrows? Of course! That would be fantastic, but that's just not going to happen. Russell Wilson? That's about as likely as trading for Patrick Mahomes. And I don't believe Case Keenum would fix anything.
If the Cowboys want to change anything, they need to do it with the draft, we need a better backup option than Rush anyway, so draft a good QB prospect and replace Rush. If he looks good enough, let him compete with Dak.
But the "Anybody but Dak" approach will do more harm than good.

Consider the road games against contenders NE, NO and PHI - the defense gave up about a dozen points in those games. Yet the ‘improved’ Dak couldn’t mount enough of an offense to prevail in important contests where the Defense showed.

Games are won by two or three plays - seasons determined by two or three games. Maybe you are willing to excuse him, but many of us whom are ALSO diehard Cowboys fans feel certain that Dak did not do enough when the chips were down. And we have NOTHING to apologize for in having that view.

I did consider those games. It’s all part of the picture.
And I’m not excusing anything. I’m observing the quality of his play and recognizing excuses aren’t necessary.

and I’m not suggesting you should apologize for being wrong about extending Dak. I just said I don’t understand how you could be mistaken on the topic.

Dude fanbases just about everywhere complaint about their QB’s. Honestly, you think it’s just cowboy fans and just Dak? Lol

This fanbase argued about Romo non stop. Still does.

uniting the fanbase is the worst way for a franchise to make personnel decisions.

If the cowboys do move on from Dak and draft a QB. The fanbase will be arguing against that QB everytime he throws a pick or has a bad game too.

Very true. No matter if Dak stays or goes there will be debate about the position until the end of time...it’s what fans do. And you’re right that uniting the fan base shouldn’t be a front office’s goal....and it’s an impossible task anyway.

The Dak situation is an interesting one because there is reason to speculate that the front office is not united themselves. I don’t know if it’s Jerry, Stephen, or both...but their actions do not match their words about being ‘all in on Dak’. If there was zero doubt, the deal would’ve been done a year ago.

why do I keep reading and disagree that we are dragging our feet. We made a fair offer. The player has accomplished nothing and wants to be highest paid. Its the player thats being unreasonable and is "dragging it out".
Hope the team learned from caving into Zeke that overpaying is not in the best interest of the team or in any way improves the player.

You think Dak plays under a tag? No way. All a tag will do is prevent him from hitting the open market. It won't get him into a cowboy uniform. The fact is that unless Jerry can land Brady or Rivers or Birdgewater, Dak has ALL the leverage for 2020. Thats where having a GM with no foresight gets us.

I don't really see it that way. If he's tagged and he doesn't play in 2020, Dak comes into the 2021 season in exactly the same place he does this season. Sitting out only serves to lengthen the duration of a new contract and costs him money he will never get back. The longer he is off the field, the more it costs him in terms of commercials etc. I mean, you are right, the team would have to secure an FA but if Dak sits, they will have cap to spend on a QB.

How do you know he wants to be the highest paid? We really don't know what is going on, and the media has been all over the board in what they print because they don't know either.

Correct. I am going to be hypercritical of the next Dallas Cowboys QB. Every incomplete pass, every sack, every turnover, every drive that doesn't end with a TD, every loss, every imperfect ball placement, every check down, every decreased performance against good defenses, etc and I am going to complain about the QB. I will also point out all the help the QB needed if we do win. It's going to be good times. :muttley:

Good discussion. Compares Dak and Goff and asks if the Rams are regretting their stupid decision of signing their mediocre player.

And who were the morons that suggested we let this drag out and don't sign him?

All Dak has to do is report week 10 to get credit for the year. But, that isn't going to help Dallas in 2020.

The only solution here that makes any sense is to either sign him or trade him as soon as possible.

This is where I'm at. Many keep suggesting Prescott wants 40 million. My question is, do fans understand the difference in guaranteed salary? That changes a ton. But you're right, none of us truly know.

Not sure that's actually the way that works. I mean, I know there is not a contract officially but there is a matter of the offer sheet and that, I believe has to be moved on by mid April or something so there is a driver there. I mean, if there is no team out there who provides a decent offer to Dak then the market is set correct? For example, a team offers the Cowboys X, X draft picks but only offers 30 mil annually, then Dak and his agent understand that the offer from the Cowboys is the best deal he's going to get right? So lets say a team offers X, X drafts and then Offers Dak 37, the Cowboys need to make a decision. They move forward and accept the deal or they match right? I mean, that's kinda what the process is designed for so it doesn't make sense, to me, why a player would do that. If you get the offer the matching offer from the team, then how do you hold out? If you don't sign the tender, then where are you at? The market isn't there and all you are doing, at that point, is missing game checks. I don't know how that could be a realistic stance for Dak or his agent if tagged as transitional.

Let 'em all walk.
Dak isn't a playmaker.
Byron isn't a playmaker.
Cooper is a part-time playmaker.
Zeke is no longer a playmaker.
DLaw isn't a playmaker.

GUT THIS TEAM!

Getting rid off all of them, and the Dallas Renegades will be hired as the replacement Cowboys lol.
