If we are going to play the game who who is worth more based on their play, the why is Russell Wilson making more than Tom Brady? or Drew Brees? Yes, Wilson is better than Dak, but he will only be the highest paid QB until the next round of QB negotiations.

I have no issue with the argument that Dak is not as good as Wilson, but that's not what contracts are about. The only question is, does Dallas think that Dak can take them to a Super Bowl and win it? He has shown flashes of brilliant play, then he showed us the Eagles game which was a disaster. Dak made this a very difficult decision for the Cowboys. Had he played well against the Eagles, I think he would have a good argument to get a deal done for some crazy money. But he sucked. He wasn't just bad, he was stupid bad. Wentz made him look silly and Wentz had no receivers at all. But I know what Dak is doing. He is listening to his agents. They are telling him to hold out for some crazy number hoping to press the Cowboys into a corner. The Cowboys should respond by signing a decent backup and if Dak holds out for anything near $40 million the Cowboys should plan on starting the season with their backup and Dak on the franchise tag.

Just remember, whatever Dak is asking for, be it $40 million less, the Cowboys have clearly been unwilling to give it to him. I wish I know what the Cowboys coaches and scouts were telling Jerry. Are they telling him Dak's last 6 games were correctable, or are they telling him what you see is what you get from Dak? Maybe they are telling Jerry Dak is the guy and Jerry still doesn't think Dak is worth $40 million.

I'm extremely cool with tagging Dak, giving McCarthy 1 season to work with him, and then either a) he turns into a star and who cares what he's paid at that point, or b) the team moves on. I like him don't see him as a proven megastar by any stretch.

But everyone going berserk over an imaginary contract number that seemingly came out of thin air is just deeply dumb.

Friendly reminder that the $40m number is just an unsubstantiated, unsourced rumor that people here just treat as the gospel truth for no discernible logical reason.

Who cares?

People routinely ask for more than they expect to get when negotiating a contract. Whether 40M was tossed out there or not really doesn't matter.

Always enjoy reading comments about our team, sometimes good, sometimes bad.

My two favorite so far:

"Dak worth more than Wilson ? On what planet ? Wilson has gone to 2 Superbowls and won one. Dak cannot throw one TD against the Saints, Eagles or Patriots. Dak has everything any QB could ask for, good OL, great RB, 2 1000 yard receivers. He could not take the Cowboys to the playoffs on the weakest division in the NFL. I have seen him miss rb's that are 5 yards from him. He cannot throw deep with any consistent accuracy. He cannot read defenses. He is big, young strong and athletic. But he is an average QB. Ryan Fitzpatrick could have won Dallas the division, as could have probably half the starting QBs in the league. He is not nor will he ever be a franchise QB."

and

"He says he doesn’t want to put a number to it. Well, Cowboys offered $33mil and that number was slapped away. So he’s got a number or else he would’ve signed that contract. And Dak’s going to gut the offense and trickle on down to the defense. That means he won’t get to a SB and Jerry will die without another title."

Sure we have to hope for the best for the team, but when it comes to this QB I just feel like it's apparent what's going to ultimately happen.

Oh yes, in before the "another Dak thread" posts :)

Someone actually gets it about this guy. This bore repeating. Get ready for another 5-10 years drought if this guy is signed.

It's illogical to think he deserves more than Wilson.

Wilson just signed his extension less than a year ago, not 3 years ago. There's the ceiling. If Prescott and his camp are holding out for more, than this is on them, not the Cowboys.

Wentz signed for $32MM in the same time frame and if you believe the reports, he's viewed as a better, higher ceiling prospect by many in the league. So there's your range, Dak............. $32MM to $35MM.

I don't fault the Cowboys one iota if it's Dak and his camp holding out for more than what Wilson got.

Dak answered with "Something will get done. We’re not going to sit here and put a number on it. Something will happen.” but it is a known fact they didn't sign last year the $33 million offer.

Not putting a number on it means he signs last year, no ifs ands or buts about it. Dak is good at playing the team and others with his words.
And??? Is Dak worth more than Goff and Wince are averaging in pay, which is $33 million per year? OF COURSE! Dak's stats the past 4 years prove that.

What? You'd prefer Goff or Wince? Is that what you are saying?

Go follow another team if it bothers you that much. Very simple. Nobody wants to hear y'alls daily complaints. Jerry, Stephen and Mike McCarthy know Dak's worth, and they will make sure Dak stays in Dallas.

You say this based on what? We don't even know that Dak is talking about $40 million, and even if he is, the Cowboys have not agreed to it. Besides, average salary isn't what counts anyway - it's the guaranteed amount.

Dak is worth what the market is going to pay him. He's earned his pay day its his time. The real problem is the league needs to do something about this QB market. Its ballooned out of control. Imo they need to create a separate cap for quarterbacks if they cant calm it down.

You claiming Dak should get more than him?

You have been completely wrong about Prescott up to this point, what makes you think that will change?

This article is actually a prefect example of how you think and how unfounded and baseless most of your claims are.

Jerry Jones thought so in 2016. And regardless whether he is liked or disliked, Jones is the 'Dallas' in Dallas Cowboys.

My question is why would anyone think Jones has changed his opinion since then? History suggests Jones sticks with his choice of franchise quarterback through thick-and-thin unless another quarterback comes along and sweeps him off his feet.

Personally, I am waiting to see if the 4:00 pm March 10 deadline for tagging Prescott elapses. I do not think Jones will tag Prescott before the deadline hits but he still surprises me from time-to-time.

The figure itself doesn't necessarily matter but in terms of what the market dictates, it's very relevant.

People who think Dak would be good at $32 million but not $40 million are kidding themselves. He's either worth $40 million-ish or not.

The other teams are fools too.. That's why we got into the Zeke mess and now the Dak mess.. Because of other teams being stupid.

The problem is those other teams enjoyed some playoff success before they indulged in their stupidity. We don't even get to have that.

I love DAK, but he's not worth 40 million dollars. Guess what? Mahommes isn't worth 40 million, nor anyone else in the NFL.
Baseball pitchers who never have a winning record aren't worth the millions they make every year either, and NBA players who are in the goofiest entertainment, not sport industry of all for most of the regular season, aren't worth the millions they make.

It's not about the player's production being worth the millions; it never is worth that ridiculous money. It's about entertainment; do they bring in interest and fans, and do things fall apart without them. Unless you have a solid QB plan for a young, exciting player or a veteran who is actually better than Dak, that makes him worth whatever the market will bear. It's sucks, but them's the facts.

It's pretty clear. Pay Dak top money and the team sits at bottom of barrel. Dude couldn't win the NFC East last year for god sake.
It's pretty clear, the team isn't going to win with or without Dak.
