I just think everyone, including Emmitt, is sick of the daily grind in the media about it.
Offer a fair market rate. Sign the damn contract.
I know I'm totally sick of the constant threads, pro and con.....just get it done and out of my reading space.
It'll just transition to whining/defending the contract by the same people. Nothing will change.

The fact that he held out for more money tells me what he would have done. He had back to back rushing titles and a Super Bowl win and he wanted to be paid like the best back in the league. The salary cap hasn’t changed anything, players still want to be paid. Free agency is a bidding war for players.
I think there was a lot more sense of "team" then. If he'd felt like he was taking money from other players pockets, I think he would have been less prone to demand as much. I could be wrong, but things are more "what about me?" now, I think.

Troy had Starter and then some other NFL clothing. Emmitt had that Reebok Money which was almost on par with Nike Money at the time.

Agree but don't remember any commercials. May be wrong but I can't remember any on TV. just like in the NBA alot of players have sponsors but not alot do commercials. That is were you are going to make more money at, being on the tube.

If there was more sense of “team” back then he wouldn’t have held out missing those first two games. The Cowboys started the 93 season 0-2 and Emmitt didn’t come back until he got paid. His hold out could have cost us a championship that season. With most players money still comes first. We see players leaving good teams for bad teams because of money.

Hypocrite. At the time the RB was paid top dollar in the NFL (see Sanders, Thomas, etc.). Emmitt got the highest paid salary in the NFL at the time (twice).

Jerry had 4 years to build a Super Bowl team with 2 star players on their rookie contracts. Instead he let his defense go to the Chiefs, got rid of a no.1 WR, no. 1 TE, and kept Jason Garrett. So why in the hell would Dak trust Jerry "The Dumbo GM" Jones to build a Super Bowl team when he has not done it in the last 25 years?

Get paid or get gone to New England Dak.

He shouldn't have needed to hold out. His value was clear to everyone. It was just a matter of JJ reaching deeper. If he hadn't held out, he would have been taken advantage of. He was the best in the league, and possibly the most important single player on the team.

Makes a lot of sense but why not just pull up and say, "I'm not excited about playing for the Cowboys," and put all the nonsense behind you?

Emmett makes a lot of sense.

Plus there is no state income tax for any game played in Texas, which adds several $ million to the true contract value.

Dak’s hometown discount should be at most $1-2m per year due to all of the off field opportunities. Anyone expecting Dak to leave $5-7m per year on the table ain’t thinking straight.

I don't see where Jerry Jones built any credibility for a hometown discount. Dak needs to get his money (resign, franchise, or paid somewhere else) and let Jerry continue to be Jerry.

Emmitt Smith advice is hypocritical and asinine.

I don't begrudge any player from maximizing their earnings. That said, I don't want to hear any player that signs a massive, record-breaking contract talk about how much they care about winning. If they REALLY cared about winning, they would take a reduced contract, allowing the team to put better players around them.

Either you care about maximizing your paycheck or you care about winning.....you really can't do both. Just my opinion.

The fact is he did hold out and it hurt the team. Jerry told him that he would work out a new contract with him during the season but he still held out. The NFL has been and will always be about money with players. Sure, they want to win but they want to get paid what they feel they’re worth. It’s always been that way and always will be.

Emmitt proved himself to be top paid at his position

It didn't hurt the team. They lost two games, Jerry realized he deserved the money, and they went on to win it all.

I'll agree with you Dak should make a decision, but if the decision is just to take the all the money he can get, then he's not helping this team get to the next level.

But again I go back to this being a Todd France decision more than Dak.

It most certainly did hurt the team he was the Cowboys best player. The main reason they lost those first two games was him not being on the field. The Cowboys entire offense revolved around Emmitt and the running game. Those two losses caused Jerry to give in and pay him.
