Many athletic stars live solely off their endorsement money and don't touch their salaries. The highly promotable Dak could easily be among this group.

It most certainly did hurt the team he was the Cowboys best player. The main reason they lost those first two games was him not being on the field. The Cowboys entire offense revolved around Emmitt and the running game. Those two losses caused Jerry to give in and pay him.
Exactly. And then he earned that money and they went on to win the SB. Those two losses didn't hurt the team, in fact it's possible those two losses helped motivate the team.

His hold out hurt us those first two games. That was my point!

How about we stop rewarding players like they have won a Super Bowl when they wouldn’t get this kind of treatment in any other market.
You mean like Goff in L.A. or Wentz in Philly?

Or are you talking about Matt Ryan? Garoppolo? Cousins?

According to Catch17 if a QB hasn’t led their team to a Super Bowl win under their rookie contract they aren’t worth a big contract extension and it’s time to move on.

I'll agree with you Dak should make a decision, but if the decision is just to take the all the money he can get, then he's not helping this team get to the next level.

But again I go back to this being a Todd France decision more than Dak.
He did help the team. He stayed, performed, and fulfilled his rookie contract. He was rewarded by his GM with Jason Garrett for 4 years, cut his no.1 WR, retired his no.1 TE, letting go 4 defensive starters that got Super Bowl rings with the Chiefs, got cheap below average free agents, prolonged a worthless battle with the NFL Commissioner for a suspended starting RB, signed OL/DL/RB to long term deals, and stop gap trades for players that have not been resigned. What other decision is left when you invested 4 years making a grand total of $2M at the QB position and watch you GM do nothing to help or take advantage of your 3 year hometown discount for your favorite team growing up in North LA.

Todd France needs to do his job for Dak now. The hometown 4 year discount was not taken advantage of...so get Money Little Duffle Bag Boy...

Another big difference being, he was invaluable... It really showed too. Emmitt could not be replaced, many feel Dak could be.

Not to mention Charles Haley having a crazy breakdown in the locker room probably didn't hurt. Nobody wanted his crazy *** mad at them.

Maybe DLAW should say... Give Dak his money or I will throw a fit, and me and da Hot Boyz won't do anything this season....

Oh wait.... they already didn't do anything this past season...

Maybe the secondary can do it, and say listen!! Give Dak his money, or there will be no interceptions this season...

Oh wait...

There wasn’t a salary cap. plus Smith was fresh off back to back rushing titles and a Super Bowl victory.
This. Apple meet orange. One has SB pedigree, NFL records, some still in tact and the other had a great rookie year and has struggled to get to sniff an NFC championship game. Lastly things have changed since those days where there is significantly more $$ with endoresments

I wish people would stop acting entitled to be the authority on how much someone makes.

Funny thing is not a single fan/poster would take anything less if they were in his shoes. ANYONE saying they would is lying ........

Not sure Emmitt is the one to be giving Dak contract advice, he did hold out for a new contract in 93. Doubt he had that same perspective when he was playing.

I agree that it's hypocritical, but in Emmitt's defense, this type of merchandising opportunity never existed in his day. The 90's Team and Jerry Jones are the team that took it to the next level with NFL merchandising. Just another reason why Dallas had so many haters.

This is easier in the NBA where you have so few players to work it out with to create that dynasty team, sometimes all represented by the same agent. So if I were an agent, I'd just warn him to not be played for a sucker. Sounds nice in theory, but the reality is another agent will take advantage of it. "You gave Dak less, so you can give my guy more."

But as a counter-point, I'd tell Dak that if you do this and win, your popularity and merchandise earning potential is even double. You're the guy who truly put team first. What fan doesn't love that?

Dak should get paid as much as possible. It's about the money. Make that money now while you can. Sucks for us fans but it's exactly what he should do

Agree 1000%......like just said in another post, the majority, if not all fans would do the same if they're being honest.

Dak is not even in the same realm as Emmitt. Superbowl champion who was the heart of the team. Dak should listen.

Well you can call me a liar but if it were me, the contract would be signed and deal done. I was raised not to screw people over just because you can.
