So I assume it goes in Wild Card round

#2 vs #7

#4 vs #5

#3 vs #6

3 winners move on to next round with #1 seed. Bye round winner gets the lowest seed of those 6 in the next round.

I like it. Makes more $$, increases fan interest. Takes the same amount of time. And having only one bye team is probably more realistic in the age of salary cap parity.

The players on the team with the bye get a paycheck that week they're off. That was not the case before.

So last year would have had the Steelers and Rams playing in the first round. Trying to decide if that would have hurt the product... probably not, honestly. And I’m generally against the idea.

Wait a minute...here's a different proposal....something they've considered since 2015.....

"The current NFL postseason features 12 of the league's 32 teams, with six representing each conference. The top two AFC and NFC teams receive byes into the divisional round, while the other eight participate in wild-card games to meet them there.

"Per Maske, the No. 2 seed in each conference would lose a bye and play a seventh seed in the wild-card round in a 14-team format.

"Talk of a 14-game postseason is nothing new. In fact, the idea almost seemed inevitable, according to a report from ESPN's Chris Mortensen in 2014.

"Roger Goodell said last week that the league will vote in March to expand the playoff field from 12 to 14 teams in 2015 and, with that, several league sources believe playoff reseeding will become a reality.

"One formula that will be discussed in the offseason is that in addition to first-round byes for the teams with the best record in the AFC and NFC, two divisional champions in each conference will get home games and the remaining 8 teams will be seeded by win-loss record."

So wait, I’ve had a few beers tonight.

Does this mean more wild card teams get in?

Or is this simply saying the top 7 teams make the playoffs ... like the NBA

What's it going to be then, eh?

Terrible.

What makes the NFL special is how hard it is just to make the playoffs.

Playoff football just got worse.
Maybe, maybe not.

Adding one team and making the two seed play is relatively minor.
