Some team would easily do it. But Dak will be here for a long time.
You might be right but it’s fun to speculate and I maintain that trading Dak is the best possible outcome for the Cowboys.
Teams like the Dolphins and Chargers are not going to trade for him. Those teams are rebuilding. The ideal trade partner is a team that believes they have all the players to make a run but are missing a quarterback.
That narrows us down to: the Bears, Patriots, and maybe Panthers. The asking price is going to be two firsts, though as I wrote earlier in the thread, I think if the Bears offer their two seconds from this year and their first from next year, that’s an appealing offer. A first and a second is also nice.
Now you have some options. First, you need to go into F.A. and get your stop gap quarterback. It’s a great year for that; Brady, Rivers, Tannehill, or Bridgewater. As Parcells says, you can’t just dial 1-800-QUARTERBACK but this is the best year for quarterbacks in free agency in recent memory.
Then, oh what to do with that abundance of picks.
There wouldn’t be enough ammo to go up and get Burrow, but every other QB is in play. You’d probably have to trade up to get Herbert or Tua, but Jordan Love will be available at 17. Eason is also an intriguing prospect in the second round.
Bottom line: it’s much easier to win a Super Bowl when a quarterback still on his rookie contract. Let McCarthy start over with his guy. Let Will McClay take either two firsts and two seconds or their first and three seconds and beef up this squad even further.
Where am I wrong?
