Wonder how the extra regular-season game with affect player contracts? I mean if you have a contract paying you $1M per game, for example, that's a nice $3-4M windfall on a 4-5 year deal.

What's being proposed and what they agree on could be two different things. The NFLPA was totally against the 17 game season. Doesnt mean it wont happen but I dont think this is a done deal as the title suggests.

More NFL is not a bad thing.

It is for the player’s health. I’m with Richard Sherman in this one. The NFL preaches how they are NOW concerned with the players health yet they propose another game (and wanted two). The owners are just a bunch of greedy dinosaurs. What’s wrong with shortening the preseason, reformatting the playoffs and keeping it at 16 games? Money of course. You lose one preseason game the owners want to add another regular season game to replace the profit of the subtracted preseason game.

Sounds like a great deal. One less PS game and an extra game sounds awesome!

I read that it could potentially be $5B in the pot for player contracts. I see a big move internationally with this 17th game.

If this happens the extra TV revenue ect.. will bring the salary cap up even higher. Might be one of the reasons Dak is looking for a shorter deal because the one he signs now might look small when the cap sky rockets with salaries. Can you say Patrick Mahomes at 45-50 million a year? Rosters would have to be bigger. With only 1 bye it’s going to make the super bowl harder to get to unless you have that bye.
Not sure how I feel about this. More injuries ect..

The 17 regular season games makes sense, but they need to drop preseason to 2 and give teams at least 2 bye weeks, preferably 3.
The extra game will mean teams won’t have to give up an home game and as well as having games played internationally, like London, Mexico... maybe Germany, Canada and even Japan... they’ll be able to play games in places currently without an NFL team, it would be great seeing games played in the big college stadiums.

Ha. The players say they want a bigger piece of the pie. The owners say OK, but only if we can make that pie bigger. The players ask them... why are owners so greedy? The owners reply, we have a family to feed.

The tricky part of this is that there is a lock of 250K on the game check for this additional game which means if you are a player making more than 4M per season, you get screwed. And if you make 4M+ a year are you more or less concerned about that extra game and what you are risking? If it's not a full game check, it's a bad deal.

Their union leaders are trying to sell them that this is a good thing and that reducing the pot testing by an undisclosed amount and taking away suspensions for what amounts to 1 out of 50 players, because they're too stupid to avoid getting caught, is a good deal.

First thing I do is start a movement to replace the union leadership, they're as bad as the sell outs they've had in the past.

And this playoff idea is just bad. It further favors the best record in each conference and puts a team in it that has no business being there. If a team can't make the top 6 out of 16, why do they deserve to be in the playoffs? So the league can make extra money on two additional playoff games.

In a league where the average salary is less than $1M per year, that $250K cap is not going to be problem for the majority of player that can most like use an extra paycheck. Add in the extra roster spots and game day active roster spots, and this proposal should appeal to the NFL middle class and below player.
