Part of the negotiations and incentive for the players is a bigger percentage of the TV contract overall.

The NFL has been and will continue to be the largest Sports Entertainment entity in the world. It hasn’t been about football in a very long time my friend.

It’s the Golden God of Live TV and American culture. Football purist need to get over it
Unless that increase relates to 6.25% increase for 17 or 12.5% for 18, that's a bad deal and you can bet most will look at that just like that. More games, more equal game checks.

When I see this about the playoffs, I recall that conversation with the guy that came back with the team after that Eagles thrashing to end the season on The Ticket. One of the players, and he wouldn't name names, said "at least we won't be playing another game for less money" and he said the heads were nodding in agreement. They went on to discuss just what a drop it was for some of the players and that was before QB's were getting 3M to play one game.

They're pros, they play for money. That's why the better golf and tennis tournaments pay more, to lure the players. I've always thought they should have a Playoff Pool where the players can actually earn more. Like in the old days, Lilly said he was motivated to win in the playoffs so he didn't have to have an off season job.

Am I the only one fine with this? An extra game a year, plus a crazy 6 game wildcard weekend. Would make for a fun Vegas trip.

Yea those days are gone with Lilly when playoff money was incentive. Now it’s less than most game checks.

Back to the TV contract. I’ve heard part of the motivation is Networks might not be offering for first time an increase over last deal . And the league sees adding games and playoff broadcast as leverage to a bigger deal.

Like you said as usual, all about the money which really shouldn’t be any surprise. I’d be shocked if it wasn’t. Lol

Yea , I really don’t care anymore. The more the merrier. Lol

I’d be ok with football season being as long as basketball or baseball season,

I'm undecided. I can't decide whether it's stupid or idiotic.
Odd number of games is stupid and idiotic. Unless everyone is playing at least one game in London or Mexico City. Completely unbalanced for some teams to have 9 home games instead of 8. I think it’s much fairer to go with 18 games.

The additional playoff team seems reasonable. But again I’d keep it even if we must expand to 8 teams in each conference and maintain the 2 Bye teams each.

I’m betting this means 16 international/neutral site games.

The farther we get away from real football, the worse it gets.

The players have started disagreeing with the proposed CBA.

"While NFL owners are already in favor of their proposal for a new collective-bargaining agreement, Houston Texans star JJ Watt isn’t having it. Before the NFL Players’ Association is set to vote on the proposal Friday, Watt made his feelings known towards the owners’ wishes."

At least part of the problem seems to be the 17th game......

I'm a traditionalist. I pretty much always hate change. I'm still pissed about the three day draft.

The 17 game schedule bothers me more than the 7 team playoffs because of how it impacts stats. You no longer can compare with the past if you're now playing an extra game.

On the flip side, you're trading a less active preseason gameday for something more likes fruitful in the regular season.
I too miss the all day Saturday draft where i think they went first 3 rounds deep.Good times.

So....8-8 teams making the playoffs now?

Yeah, last year the 8-8 Steelers and 9-7 Rams would have made the playoffs. So exciting. If they add just one more they can be like the NBA and NHL and start sending losing teams to the playoffs. Maybe even to the Super Bowl like the NHL did with the Cup. Who can forget those 27-39-14 Minnesota Northstars!

Yep. 3 rounds starting at noon EST. Usually went past 10 at night. Then start round 4 at 10am EST on Sunday. It was great.

Only 1 bye team is good but this never ending need to make the NFL more—more games, more countries, more days of the week—is bad.

They're so worried about injuries but lets tack on more. Have players play 4 days apart. Maybe add Wednesday night football also? They need to scrap Thursday night.

Adding more teams to the playoffs is just going to water them down with teams that shouldn’t be in the playoffs. Eventually an 8-8 team will end up in the Super Bowl. A 500 season shouldn’t be rewarded with a playoff berth.
