Wouldn’t be quite over paying it would be per scale. Daks 40 in a much higher cap would be equivalent to 28-30 in the current one. He would actually get paid what he’s worth.

What would be worrisome is if Daks demands increase with the cap, i.e. if he asked for 50M+ because of the increase in cap room. Then he’d just be going for a percentage of the cap rather than a number

People have to stop using this logic because the cap might go up substantially its OK to overpay for Dak.

It is not okay to overpay any player if there is any expectations of ever winning a Super Bowl. Smart teams do not do this. Would you overpay for a car just because you had some extra money?

You need to get out more..extra is relative and yes people in this universe have historically overpaid for cars

I should get paid $200/hr because minimum wage will be $100 in no time

I have read that McCarthy is on a diet. Not sure if true though.
Stop!! Fat Coach and Superbowl are synonymous....

We should have known Parcells was slipping when he started using treadmill at Valley Ranch...no way Romo drops the snap! He'd be too scared

Dak will get overpaid because that’s what JJ does with players he falls in love with. But the big question will be how the contract is structured and what percentage of the salary cap in takes up each year.

I would think a new CBA screws us over even worse by putting these contracts off for so long.

It screws us because no transition tag. They better get Cooper done so that they can franchise Dak. If Cooper walks after using a first round pick on him, that would be a disaster.

This deal should realistically have no effect on how much Dak is offered. If he thinks that he can get $40 million a year just because if a cap increase, he is delusional. It would be stupid for the team to get more cap space and start overpaying players.
I think the argument would be that it isn't overpaying if the cap number goes up significantly. Players are going to make more if the cap goes up, and it sounds like the new CBA is going to make teams use more of the cap each year.

Sammy Watkins had a $19M cap charge for 650 yards of production.

New CBA provides clarity and impetus to get deals done. Things will be fine.

But that could have been the hold up last year too. Dak's team anticipating a 250+ million dollar cap by the middle of his deal and not wanting to short change himself. If the cap really goes that high then Dak is probably right to wait, even if that means playing on the tag a year for all of this to shake down.

Removing uncertainty usually advances negotiations. Both sides are averse to looking bad in the deal. The more uncertainty, the more likely that happens.

These contract negotiations will be even more interesting if there is a new CBA in place.

I fully expect Dallas to get it handed to them by Dak and Amari's agents.
I still want Coopers money spent on defense.

Draft us one in this deep class.
