Apparently he wanted to retire at end of last year. Can’t imagine there’s much gas left in the tank.

The extended him last year and he was injured "and other factors" the Lions site says. They save about 6.75 million toward the cap, with $5 million dead money.
I'm with rocyaice on didn't watch him this past season but just his size and run stopping ability should be a huge upgrade, if healthy, to the DT position

Something tells me playing in Detroit for that franchise going nowhere had something to do with it.

Not the first guy to retire early from there

27) David Onyemata. 6'4" 300
27) Jordan Phillips 6'6" 324
25) A'Shawn Robinson 6'4" 320
27) Quinton Jefferson 6'4" 291

I'd take any of those free agent DT's before Snacks Harrison.

After the season ended, Harrison admitted his mind was telling him he could still play while his body was sending him mixed signals. The veteran run-stuffer first brought up the idea of retirement shortly after the season finale against the Green Bay Packers in Detroit.

“Wasn’t able to ever get back to the form I’m used to, and I got too much pride, man,” he said in the locker room while trying to hold back tears. “I’ve been doing this too long. So, if I can’t be the player I’m used to being, my teammates deserve better, my family deserves better, the (Ford) family deserves better. I never cheated the game a day in my life.”

Snacks used to be a stud but the Giants traded him for a 3rd? and now the Lions are letting him go. Seems like something “ain’t right”.

Eating himself out of the league, has been cut multiple times, but the crowd who wants a 400 pound DT gets excited every time.

Two years ago yes. What does he have left and why is he being cut? Didn’t see him play at all last year.
Not sure this is why but ALOT of teams this year Cap situation sucks so some known names will ne available because of money reasons
