I like the sound of it on the surface at least. 17 game season and decrease the preseason to 3 instead of 4 games.
Not sure what effect that would have on the playoff arrangement though. They said it would be 14 teams instead of 12.

NFLPA meeting today to discuss. This is really good news because both sides are in agreement on the main points and regardless of what happens today, it doesn’t seem like it will be contentious as in years past.

The added playoff team in each conference is unnecessary. If you go back and apply that extra team since the realignment you know what you get? Around 8 teams that were 10-6 and one 11-5 team that would have made the playoffs. That's good, right? But the other 28 teams have a worse record. So all it does is dump more 8-8 and 9-7 teams into the playoffs.

The NFL owners are wise in that they give a decent financial incentive to the lower-paid guys to approve the deal. Giving those guys a little salary bump doesn’t cost much (relatively speaking) and there are more of them than there are the big earners.

I think there may end up being a silent majority happy to take any extra money they can get because to many of them, an extra $95,000 is still a big deal.
