He'd better hope he doesn't go to Detroit. Career killer.
They were doing well until Stafford went down and out.

tyke, they don't care about the career part, they care about the money part and Stafford has done well.

DET is the perfect spot for him, they don't need to start him this season and can groom him ala Rodgers and Mahomes. They can trade Stafford next year.

If he wants to play in Dallas he has the power to make himself drop a bit!

While true......that surrounding cast at receiver doesn’t look bad. Galladay can catch anything.
Yeah, but you need an offensive line. Detroit has a tendency to take wide receivers high and offensive linemen low. And we see where that has gotten them.

Stafford has been doing well, but he's won only one playoff game. Or is that zero? Detroit is almost an afterthought as a franchise. Unless Tua can transcend its woeful history, he'll go there and be forgotten compared the star he could become if he goes to a franchise like Dallas or Miami. He'd better hope also that Cincy not take him either.

Does he have to go with the team that drafts him. Or are we going to enter a new era where some players are going to be able to refuse to go to the team that drafts them and pick there own team.

I guess if he wanted to he could refuse to sign and go into next years draft.
But basically if he was chosen by a team and refused to sign with them then it’s over for that whole draft. Another team couldn’t try to draft him later in the same draft.

It all depends on leverage. I don't think Tua has the same kind of leverage John Elway and Eli Manning had. Then again, Tua has money from his insurance policy during his days at Alabama. He could conceivably sit out because he's not likely to play this year anyway because of the hip injury/rehabilitation. He can enter next year, and I don't think he'll miss a beat, merely just a year of collecting millions of dollars. But he can make that up depending on the team he goes to - definitely if it's the Cowboys.

Having said this, I don't see a high-character, faith-inspired kid like Tua refusing to play for a particular franchise.

He can sit out but he will have to re-enter the draft next year, he cannot sign as a FA.

I am waiting for some player to challenge the draft as it is set up and the punishment for not signing. Back when he was a senior in high school, Adrian Peterson considered challenging the rule that he must go to college and not be able to directly enter the NFL from high school. Several attorneys were consulted and not one said they didn't think he could win. Most said they thought the NFL would crater because their position really has no merit except to keep their relationship with colleges intact. They do not start Saturday NFL games until the regular college season is concluded to keep that relationship.

I think if a player is willing to sit out a year, he should be able to sign with whatever team he likes.

Can a player enter the draft after his freshman year in college.

I don't think it has anything to do with character, if a player doesn't want to play in CIN or DET, I don't fault their character. In fact, I would respect any player willing to stand his ground and not sign for the dough.

For instance, there are some owners that have put their political crap out front and if I was a player, I wouldn't play for them. There are some crappy places to live vs some places more acceptable. And they do have to live there during the season.

NFL Draft eligibility
In order to be eligible for the NFL Draft, a player must be at least three years removed from high school. That means a college football player is eligible to enter the NFL Draft after his junior season or, in some cases, his redshirt sophomore season

What part of East Texas are you in? AP played 9 miles north and tomorrow is Jeff Wilson day here in town. We are having a parade!

If Tua was going to buck the system, he should not have entered the draft process. Can't sign up and then file a suit, he's already agreed to the terms of the draft. Not with any team but with the process.

Bummer. I see NBA players right out of high school. With the short career the NFL players have they should be able to enter the pros a little earlier.

This is wishing thinking but I've used to dream of this scenario for the last 3 years now. I didn't expect Dak to have the year he's had this past season, so reality started to sink in once we went 3-0 averaging 30 points a game at the beginning of the season.

I'll tell you this, Anybody who thinks Herbert is better than Tua hasn't watched college football in the past 3 years. Herbert is another Mike Glennon to me and will be a non factor 4 years from now.

Sorry folks, but semi-lighting up the Pac 12 secondaries isn't the same as lightning up the SEC secondaries. Other than height, this kid doesn't move the needle for me.

I think the rule is because of the physicality of the NFL. Most kids out of high school aren't prepared to play against NFL players. Adrian Peterson and Derrick Henry may have been two exceptions.
