I say tag Dak and look for his replacement in the draft. If any of the QB's drop then trade up. Two years from now (if they do their homework on the QB they draft), they will be in much better shape for years to come. Putting all your eggs in one basket (with DAK) can greatly harm the future of this team.

I believe future Super Bowl winners are going to be teams with QB's on their rookie contract. You can not build a winning team when you're putting the bulk of your salary cap into one person.

I have always thought we should draft a QB every year or at least sign a free agent one.

Brady, Warner, Romo, Mark Brunnell, Brad Johnson, Joe Thiesman, Mark Rypien even Bart Starr was a high pick. There are Super Bowl winners in that group. You just never know because playing the position is so enigmatic and hard to quantify.

Give me a QB in the 6th round rather than a corner from Drexel every single time because if the corner hits that’s nice. If the QB hits it changes your franchise for years and as the Patriots have shown you can leverage great draft picks if they develop.

I’ve just never understood the downside compared to the upside.

I think he said: Let's trade up in case Dak ain't the guy.

Looking at the pre-combine grades Burrow is 7.07 (pro bowl talent), Tua is 6.82 (first year starter), most grading below Herbert's 6.45 (starter within two years).*

* Subject to change after the combine.

Considering the cost to move up, I'm a no to that. High bust rate for 1st round QB's. You start giving up 1st round picks to get a QB you seriously gamble on your teams future. Last 10 years:

Murray
Jones
Haskins
Mayfield
Darnold
Allen
Trubisky
Mahomes
Watson
Goff
Wentz
Lynch
Winston
Mariota
Bortles
Manziel
Manuel
Luck
Griffin III
Tannehill
Weeden
Newton
Locker
Gabbert
Ponder
Bradford
Tebow

Honestly don’t see a lot of “busts”, especially recently as the game has become more college like and QBs jobs have become more about finding guys that are schemed open rather than arm talent. I certainly don’t see anything that would make me think we couldn’t park a QB draft pick behind this offensive line and have success, just like we did four years ago.
If Ryan Tannehill has a disappointing career in Miami and then changes teams and instantly posts the 4th highest passer rating in NFL history, who exactly is the “bust”, him or the Dolphins?

You're right. There are not a lot of QBs on that list I like, even though the jury is still out on quite a few. I'd rather the Cowboys let Dak walk and draft Eason in the 2nd.

We should have let Romo walk after his 1st contract and just drafted a qb in the 2nd.

Just because Mahomes is a freak athlete doesn't mean it would be easy to replace Dak in the draft with just any QB. You might also consider spending some draft capital on the defensive side of the ball.

I agree we would have to trade away this draft and likely part of next years to move up to get a player that hasn’t played 1 down in the NFL and we have no way of knowing if he will be or get any better than what we have now. And I don’t think Dak has hit his ceiling quite yet.

Save the money and let Dak walk. Force the new QB to play in year one. He sinks or swims. If he sinks we have cap space and a premium pick in 2021 for his replacement. If he swims we have cap space.

I want the team to make a decision to either sign him or let him walk. No tag, please.
