This place is my favorite message board so I figured I would try to discuss my favorite NBA team in the same place as I discuss my favorite NFL TEAM.

What do you guys think of the current Thunder team? Where are they headed? Can they be a successful playoff team and advance in the playoffs as they are now.

Should they be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline?

This was supposed to be a building year, but these guys didn't care. Lots of fight in this group and they're punching above their weight.

What do you think the ceiling is on the roster as currently comprised? What do you think the next big move is? Any trades?

I love CP3's leadership and play, but he's only getting older. As much as I hate to say it, if we want to get to the WC finals in the future, it's not going to happen with this particular team. It's a shame. I like this year's team.

CP is awesome, he’s the glue and a players like him are way undervalued. He makes them about 20-25 wins better than they are....a la Chauncey Billups back in the day...Jason Kidd.....hate to say it but Draymont.....
Thunder have some really good young players, they need another 3 and D to replace Ferguson, who’s been a big disappointment IMO.
I think they could be about two players away from being legit scary in the west. Lord knows they have enough draft picks the next five years to find some more players.

They are more fun to watch than the prior two years. They are actually playing as a TEAM.

I am wondering what they do before the trade deadline. It looks like they made a trade today and acquired a player.

Will they be buyers, sellers, both?

If they keep winning what happens to the Thunders picks?

Some are saying they have too many picks and need to package them to move up because they won’t have roster space for all of them.

IDK. I personally don’t think you can ever have too many picks. Lol.

good post, Cowboys have had similar dilemma several times in recent history too.
One of the problems is in the nba, if the next Zion or Lebron comes out, the top team is NO WAY trading that pick, not even for all of king Midas’s silver....and unlike the nfl, where the team isn’t going to say “we don’t want the top qb because we already have one.” New Orleans wasn’t about to go “we don’t want Zion because we already have a PF.” Ha
So I’m not sure picks outside the very top are as valuable as picks are in the nfl. But maybe you can get a top talent inside the top five or ten that they couldn’t at 18 or 20 as it looks like they will be a playoff team and probably, ironically, surpass Houston for seeding. Hope Russ is enjoying the brick show.
Anyway, I think they could and probably should do some packages to go get a few potential starters, esp a long 3 and D wing.

I don’t follow the Thunder as closely as the Cowboys so I’m a little bit less clear about draft picks, etc.

As I understand it the Thunder keep their own pick (top 20 protected) and they lose the pick if they draft 21-30 in 2020.

What happens if they keep their 2020 first round pick? What do they lose in return? And what trade was this a part of?

this article breaks it down quite well
“OKC could have a whopping 13 first-round picks and six second-round selections over the next seven drafts.”

I don’t know what the Thunder are going to do at the trade deadline. I sort of hope that they hold this team together and buy another piece to make a run this year in case a team falters due to injury.

I hope they DO NOT trade Adams.

me too.

Drummond and Capella are available and OKC has more picks than roster spots...

Chris Paul is clearly one the most underrated players in the game right now.
The effect he’s had on the thunder this year is amazing. I’d dare say the thunder are a better team more likely to go farther in the playoffs with Paul than Westbrook. I expect the Rockets to get a high seed and then flame out early as usual.
OKC is finding its groove right now with Paul and some budding stars in the making. if I were Presti I’d keep Paul til he retires and keep adding talent around him....
still think they need a 3 and D wing player but what the got is working right now.
It’s really close right now, what seed they end up with?
They could be any of 3-7..... I’m guessing they end up at four...

The Thunder will be a nightmare for any team they face in the playoffs. It will take all four quarters of 7 games to beat them.

It will be a while before those picks start to convey. There isnt a big hurry to figure out who they are. I think there ceiling right now is division round the next couple of years. After that they have alot of ammo to reshape the roster, whether its through trades or picks.

You guys have Schroeder through next season, then his 15 million comes off the books. He could be a valuable trade asset this offseason, as he is an expiring deal and playing at a high level

The Thunder have started off strong post all star break. 2 and 0. That’s looking good.

I expect them to climb some from the 6th seed where they currently reside. How far remains to be seen. They have a hard three game stretch coming up because of the proximity of the games. I would put them and 2 and 1 based on who is is, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they go 1 and 2 in that series based on who they play and when.

I sort of hope they they keep Gallinari around after this year. He has been a big part of the resurgence of the roster as constructed.

I could see the Thunder getting a top 4 seed and winning a playoff series. It’s probably best for them to end up with a seed that doesn’t end up with them facing the Lakers until the finals.

This team is playing with a lot of confidence and they seem to be “figuring it out”. I like the fact that they are actually playing team basketball rather than just isolation ball with Russ or Paul.

It’s going to be interesting to see how this thing pans out but this may we’ll be the best team the Thunder have put in the floor since the Finals team.

I hope they never win another game. They will forever be the zombie Seattle SuperSonics. Clay Clay Bennett is an evil POS (that’s the PG version of what I think of the parasite). I hope David Stern is enjoying Hell.

Yes, Bitter, party of 1.

If I am looking at it correctly, the Thunder started the season 7 and 13 (first 20 games) and from that point on are 28 and 9. Thats a pretty darn salty record. Hard to imagine that big of a turn around.
