I hope this isn't fantasy land. Where's all the naked hot women and free whiskey? And if it was really my fantasy land, the free whisky would be served by the naked hot women. I had to pay for the last whiskey and an old hairy dude handed it to me.

I suppose some of you are young, but the old timers should know better. I fully expect to go to my grave waiting for the Cowboys to win another Super Bowl. Blow smoke up your backside if it makes you feel better, but the 3 SBs in the 90s were all about Jimmy. It's not an accident that Jerry and his son haven't been able to sniff another in a quarter century - do you need another 25 years to accept reality?

If that's so, @Jake, why did he only have one playoff appearance after he left the Cowboys? No excuses, he was Head Coach and GM in Miami. Oh, and his one playoff appearance? The Jaguars dropped 62 on him.

Jimmy and Jerry, together, caught lightning in a bottle. A few very fortunate things happened there for them.

The 2007 team had a real shot at winning a Super Bowl. If they hold off the Giants, I do think that they win it. The 2016 team also had a very good shot, if not a miracle from Rodgers.

Whether or not we get another one this decade is going to depend on what Jerry does in the next two months with Dak, Coop, Quinn, etc. People have seen enough of my posts to know what I would do so I won't go there.

I am like the op I watch cowboys games any more without much expectations its easier on the nerves a lot less stressful jerry and his son couldn't build a winning football team with a clear blueprint of how to do it I full expect that they will lose both Byron jones and Amari cooper in free agency I think they now have a nfl competent coaching staff which at least gives the team a fighitning chance which is something they haven't had for a long time guess we will see but until jerry is gone I just don't see the cowboys as true super bowl contenders but as they say I guess we will see

We have a better coaching staff with a ton of experience and I’m really looking forward to the result of a marriage between McCarthy’s and Moore’s offensive minds. I think the net result is going to be a really diverse and rich system that will be among the best units in the league. I’m excited to see what they’ll do with Zeke and Pollard schematically and I’m very happy about the return to a zone blocking scheme. Both RB’s are good with zone blocking.

The defense underachieved so much last year that I think it’ll improve no matter what. It should have been much better last year. I feel like the draft will be primarily a defensive draft and I expect some better than average free agent pickups on that side of the ball. With a little creativity from the defensive coaches, I think the defense will be much better than 2019’s version.

The special teams went from the worst coach to maybe the best. They shouldn’t help lose games anymore.

Speaking for myself... I’m excited as hell about this upcoming season. Am I expecting a Super Bowl? Of course not. However, I do think the team will compete for a playoff spot and will improve over time as the new coaches settle in.

McCarthy truly is a really good coach and a very bright offensive mind. I like the staff and think the coaching change will do the entire franchise a lot of good.

I’m really looking forward to 2020.

Having said all of that, there are some really crazy ideas for unrealistic trades and outlandish moves that people unfortunately come up with. I don’t think they are very good ideas but if they want to discuss it, then they can have at it.

However, the team and its chances to do well make me excited to be a Cowboys fan and the offseason holds a lot of promise to my, admittedly, glass-half-full mind.

I hope you can find your optimism and excitement for the season, Jake.
I'm going to frame this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jimmy had a national championship ring before he ever came to Dallas - did Jerry help him win that one, too?

Whatever you need to tell yourself a quarter of a century later. Speaking of excuses:

The only two 1 seeds to lose at home in the divisional round this century? The 2007 Cowboys and the 2016 Cowboys. Thanks, Jerry.

JJ had 3 consecutive playoff appearances with the Dolphins in 4 seasons with a record of 2-3, you need to get your facts straight

That's true of each super bowl winner.

It's always the HC not the owner.
So Switzer was an Uber HC?

Yikes.

He is the fly in any ointment about superior coaching talent being the difference.

We all know Jerrah clearly ran the team threw Switzer that year and why after that all ended..

we ended up with so many replacements that could not work with Jerrah as owner/GM.

Jerrah got his chance to work effectively as a Co-HC and loved it.

Some days, I can only take so much of the meaningless hand-wringing that goes on here:

"Let's sign this guy who just got cut!"

"Let's trade our first round pick for the next 4 years for some QB I only learned existed last month!"

Sign Dak! Don't sign Dak!

I'll do you one better - it doesn't matter. The Cowboys brain trust isn't smart enough to build a champion, with or without Dak. The sooner you accept it the less frustrated you'll be when the inevitable happens next season, and the next, and the next...
All I can say is I agree with most of this. Except if you give the coach all the credit back then most of the blame should fall on the coaches now. Coach these guys where they need to be. Talent is there so bring it out of them

Interesting!...I've been waiting for that "magical" SB win also! I guess I'll just force myself to live long enough to see and enjoy it...lol! As for Jerry...I agree that Jimmy was the main contributor to those SBs...Beyond a doubt!...But JJ did hire Jimmy in the first place, and I'll give him credit for that.. It's been a long drought, so hopefully he hired another winner...eh?:star:
Jimmy and Hershel Walker. Don't discount Hershel's role in the 90's Cowboys. We had a lot of picks in that draft. Some we used effectively, Emmitt, Kdub, Erik Williams. And some busted, Steve Walsh. Jimmy didn't hit on every pick, Steve Walsh was a #1 overall pick in the draft, but we had so many picks the busted picks didn't set us back.

That's all team's fans, all the time. When I see a message board comments with pie in the sky trade suggestions, signing suggestions etc I often ask, like you say, who is saying this, is this some 16 year old kid who is still getting their sea legs, so to speak, about how things work?

I remember going way back before the internet when I used to listen to sports radio and there would be routine calls all the time from people saying why don't we trade 3 of our bench players for that superstar on the other team. They are never gonna stop. Somewhere right now is a 14 year old who in 2 years is gonna join this group and start doing it yet again.

I just ignore them

Yes Jerry and Stephen provide little inspiration. They suffer from Rumsfeld’s worst case scenario the unknown unkonows. They are just clowns. That said my new working theory to enjoy the Cowboys is that they have been drastically under coached for the past 12 plus years. Garrett is and was a total fraud. I think McCarthy is the real deal. He will be good. The roster is solid. If they can field a good QB and add DT, S, TE and CB they should be good to go.

Chin up. Jerry is really old.
Nail on the head! At least for the first time, in a long time, I’m excited about the upcoming season.

Hey! To be fair, I gave you Woodford Reserve but only charged you for the well whiskey.
