No he called the Browns or Giants to let them know he wouldn't be interested in that interview (think it was the Browns). Before 2019 started the Browns, Broncs, Dolphins, and Bengals were all interested, but he wanted to coach the Jets.
Ok..

Some other answers have popped up too.

Thanx.

heres what i dont care about.

his past. everything in his past wont be whats on the 2020 dallas Cowboys roster.

So what are we looking for? will he make the tough decisions? we cant have the Jason Wittens of the world hanging on for the love of the game but holding back some players that are ready to go. Thats the first thing i want.

Second, lets talk about what we are needing and so far reading, lots of evaulation, lots of film being viewed, but not just that, will they get players to run in their schemes? that is also very important. i dont care what type of WR you are, OR QB if you cant run the scheme we want done.

Third, gotta use the players on the field correctly, if you have a RB whos getting you yards and the whole RB corp is wrecking it that day, dont stpo the run for a WR whos cold. What i want to see if its working, keep working it, if the defense cant stop it, dont help them. IF Zeke and Pollard are working it, keep at it. Dont force Dak to not be dak and if hes having a good day with the runners, run it.

Another reason im glad we got a HC installed, going to need that time, not a lot of time in the off season and we are playing behind the 8 ball now. Im hoping the stafff understands this and has to get things in place correctly.

Not worried about contract or draft status, if the player doesnt fit, out he goes. I dont care if you have a ferrari if its in the garage all the time.

all this before FA and the draft. we gotta hit both of those correctly, not just to win April.

You should know by now that I’m gonna tell it like I see it. McCarthy was probably a best-available hire. But last year’s roster should have been the best chance we had at making a Superbowl run in years, and we didn’t even make the playoffs. If I thought the issue was the coaching I might be energized for next season. But I don’t. Which means I think progress needs to come from the players or the motivation of the players. With the number of free agents we’ve got exposed, and middling draft position, I don’t like where we’re sitting. Maybe that changes when the roster starts coming together. But as it is, I don’t see how you look at an off-season if attrition and paying more for the same players we came up short with last season as forward progress.
I agree.

The Dark Side isn't bad if you are winning.

Although we have little to go by yet with Mike so far..

McCarthy reminds me of when Jimster came with his UM staff.

Jerrah wants a repeat of that success no doubt.

We shall see.

Clearly what McCarthy wanted and received was control over the coaches with their loyalties to him.

Not to Jerrah.

That's an excellent start.

All the talk about a college HC just seemed like a huge waste of time and money as we would have to deal with a learning curve doing that.

McCarthy and these coaches already know the ups and downs of their positions. Most would like to go on for their own HC opportunities.

When McCarthy did not return to football after 2018 and took his time off..

these coaches were obviously told he would hire them again soon.

He did.

So here we are..

We stand an excellent chance of the assistant coaches having done similar introspective reviews of their schemes as McCarthy has done.

No doubt McCarthy quizzed them about how they would go about coaching under him, what did they learn, what would they change or why stay the same, etc.

Garrett never did that in hiring his coaches and never had final approval..Jerrah did.

So as much as we belittle Garrett, this was the only way he could coach in Dallas.

Not true for McCarthy.

McCarthy could have picked any of 6-7 teams in the NFL.

The fact he came here knowing our history is gratifying.

Somethings could go wrong for us still to come.

But I like Mike. They say teams take on their coaches identity.

We shall see exactly what that is soon.

Comments peanut gallery?

McCarthy will do better if all he does is build campfires on Friday nites and gather the team around and sing this kumbaya. I did you the courtesy of sparing you the damn video.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention, makes me feel better that the Browns didn't want him, the Giants chose a special teams coach and the Panthers went with a college coach. It renews my hope that him lying to JJ to get this job that things are going to be GREAT!

Imagine if the Cowboys had a STUD RB who the head coach stupidly refused to give the bulk of the carries to.

The entire fanbase knows it. The HOF QB knows it and has been lobbying for it. But the head coach REFUSES to make it happen.

That’s the Green Bay Packers from 2017-18.

Aaron Jones didn’t come out of nowhere this past season. The kid averaged 5.5 yds/carry in 2017 AND AGAIN in 2018.

Everyone knew he should be the workhorse. Everyone except for the hard-headed moron on the sidelines, Mike McCarthy.

No, I’m not excited by the hire.

Packers went 13-18-1 over McCarthy’s last 2 seasons, then got to the NFC title game immediately after his firing.

Found it! "10 Way Too Early Predictions"

Team that will disappoint us like the 2019 Bears
Minnesota Vikings — Christian D’Andrea
Minnesota Vikings — James Brady
Dallas CowboysMorgan Moriarty
San Francisco 49ers — Adam Stites
Buffalo BillsSarah Hardy

Why I picked the Vikings: Minnesota went 1-4 against playoff teams in the regular season. Now the Vikings have to improve their roster despite currently having a projected -$12 million in cap space for 2020. — D’Andrea

Why I picked the Cowboys: The Cowboys had one of the most loaded rosters in the NFL, at least on offense, and they sat at home in the playoffs. Jerry Jones hiring Mike McCarthy is basically just another Jason Garrett, so I have low expectations for this team already. — Moriarty

Why I picked the 49ers: A dominant defense couldn’t quite get the job done because of questionable play at quarterback. Where have I heard this story before? Oh that’s right, it’s the Bears of last season. And the Jaguars the year before that. If the 49ers defense takes a step back at all, they could be the latest Super Bowl hangover victim. — Stites

Why I picked the Bills: I agree with Adam, except on which “great defense, iffy quarterback” team will miss the playoffs. — Hardy

Just one simple transaction could have put the Cowboys into the playoffs. Replacing a kicker is the easiest thing in the world to do.

The Cowboys had a coaching staff incapable of doing that until it was too late. Mike McCarthy wouldn't have hesitated. Most coaches wouldn't have.

A new coaching staff fixing the Cowboys should energize all Cowboy fans.

I don’t disagree, but to be fair, they also added a lot of free agent talent after letting McCarthy go.

We’ll see..

Packers getting rid of him and getting to a NFC championship is not a good look.

I also don’t like that he is not calling the plays.

It’s easy to have success when you have HOF QBs. He should’ve had much more.

McCarthy is a good ole boys hire if there ever was one.. He’s NFL family.

Eagles got rid of Andy Reid, too. Worked out for Philly and for the Chiefs.
