It is not just a matter of him smoking pot. He is unreliable and a head case. Irving wants to play at his convenience. Obviously he is not committed to carving out a career in the NFL. Money is not a means to an end but an end to his means.
A head case for legally consuming medicine? Instead of pointing that finger at Irving you should be pointing that finger at yourself. All the guy did was take a medicine, the only medicine for him, that helped. I salute the guy for standing up for what he believed was right.

You guys act like as if enjoying a weed habit is akin to becoming a full blown meth addict.

Yet I'm sure there are many very successful NFL players that get completely hammered on booze a couple times a week, even during the season.

If he wants to come back on a cheap contract, IMO he should be allowed a chance to prove he wants to play.

I believe most of us don't care what he does with his personal life in regards to weed or any other drugs. Our concern is his inability to follow the rules he agreed to. Not a referendum or judgement on drug or alcohol usage in and of itself.

Any player who doesn't make his playing career a priority over getting high, or drunk, or such, I don't want on my team. Even players like Brady have careers a small percentage of their life, more so than 99% of the rest of us working stiffs, they can make the "sacrifice" and still have plenty of time left to "party"...

It never made sense that the league was all about pumping these guys full of painkillers regardless of the consequences, but they would punish a dude for smoking weed to deal with it instead? Screw that. Hopefully the new CBA fixes it.

While I believe in the legalization of weed in general and not just medically, even if I have never done it or plan to, the fact of the matter is I support the Cowboys. Weed is against League policy so players choosing it over helping the Cowboys get no sympathy from me. The second it is allowed in the league, I have no problem with them lighting up. Nobody forced him to play football. Nobody forced him to break the rules.

Cowboys players who knowingly violate league policy for their own ends are a detriment to the team and hurt the team, therefore BYE BYE.

What happened to the weed business that he was supposed to get rich on? He said football wasn't his passion.

i'm sure there are. but name those successful players who gave up their career TO SMOKE WEED.

i can't think of a one. nate got busted for selling it by the 2-tons after his career ended. stepnoski smoked most of his career and just was smart about it. the point isn't whether or not he wants to smoke. the point is he gave up an NFL career to do it.

his priorities suck and i don't want him around. that's all. he can smoke weed every minute of the day for the rest of his life and 2 things will happen as far as i'm concerned. i still won't want him on the team and i still won't care he smokes.

it's the choices he makes that go with it i'm against.

I always thought Irving could have been great. I just don’t think the guy loves football.

Why should I point the finger at myself? Are you that emotionally juvenile? I have no issue with Irving smoking pot, medicinally or otherwise. I believe he is not a reliable player and he strung the team along at times only playing in 10 games the last 2 seasons. He signed up to play football under NFL/team contract (as other players) with a no weed smoking restriction. That is my perspective. And if you want to salute Irving or fist pump in solidarity with him, enjoy, and don't pull any tendons.

I guess since he didn’t play last year that any suspension would have been served.

:hammer:

This guy proved without a shadow of a doubt what was most important to him. Spoiler alert! It was smoking weed, not playing football.

And I'll file this 'reinstatement' right next to the one I've heard about from Randy Gregory for the past few years.

So it’s ok with the teams shooting them up with dangerous pain killers but not ok for a player to self medicate with cannabis which is a much, much softer medicine just because one’s legal and one is only legal in about 20 states? That’s a very narrow minded view of the situation.

David Irving: A pot smokin', free-wheeling nut job who'll do whatever it takes to support his habit and cannot be counted upon to serve his team.
