What did you not understand about, "the Cowboys washed their hands of him"? They released him, do not own his rights, do not want his rights or anything to do with this guy. Why are you questioning this?

Gregory is a different guy, different case, different treatment by the team.

Well I guess I didn't see where that was posted. Don't hurt yourself having fit over it. :muttley:

Enjoying smoking does not equal not wanting to play football. The 2 things aren't mutually exclusive. Obviously the nfl made it that way, but if the new CBA is passed and allows him to do what he pleases and play football I don’t see why he couldn’t still be a contributor. Not like he wasn’t regularly getting high when he was playing before...

If he stopped lifting and eating like a 290lb athlete needs to eat then it could be a big deal.

One thing when a guy tears his ACL, misses the year but still is with the team.

Irving went off the NFL grid, so I guess we'll see if he was still busting his *** in the gym and still in shape.

It’s almost March.. He has plenty of time to be ready for football in September.

You appeared to be having trouble understanding so it seemed necessary to reply in unambiguous terms to help you out. It seems to have worked.

I thought he didn’t want to play and didn’t like it. Guess he realizes the money is better than whatever he is currently doing.
He sees the NFL possibly softening its rules on pot, which he had said he was not willing to give up.

I am not having a good day, actually the past few weeks. Gout issues, and started on some meds last night, on top of my other meds. Plus lack of sleep.
That is my excuse am I am sticking to it.

Stay away from this guy
why? The only issue he had, as far as I know, was weed. He was a BEAST on the field and Im tired of the RKG... i want disrupters, I want play makers, I want guys that kick the opponents arse... I dont care if he calls his coaches little wussies and doesnt break cookies for the church bake sale. I just want a D-lineman that can actually knock the hell out of opposing QBs, and he checks that box.

Do you care about him actually showing up, practicing and playing with the intensity you describe? He has already failed to do those things & i believe went so far as to say he didn't ever really like football when he walked away. So, i have zero faith that we should expect anything different this time.

Moreover, surely we can find good players who can do those things without all the distraction and risk.

I totally agree with that, but at the same time if they give him a training camp tryout on a minimum salary I wouldn't mind. If he doesn't take a dramatic step up in attitude, you cut him the same day. But stranger things have happened than Irving coming back, starting with Rolondo McClain having a good season here.

Please don't assume. I never said it was okay that they used dangerous painkillers, or fair. I said pot was currently against League policy. Until it is not, its use a detriment to the team. I'm a Cowboys fan first. I fully advocate them changing league policy to allow it, but until then players should stay away from weed for the good of their team. Nobody forces them to play. They can seek employment elsewhere. They have a right to apply to play in the NFL, but they don't have a right TO play in it. If they can't even follow the simple rules laid out...

Any time a player does something suspension-worthy intentionally, they get no sympathy because they're hurting their team. It's that simple.

Eventually it will be legal in the NFL and in all 50 states. That will be fair and a good thing. It is not yet. That isn't narrow minded. That's being a fan of the team.
That’s exactly what Irving did, seek employment elsewhere and I salute him for doing what is right. I could care less about the football aspect other than the policy is outdated and about to change.

Any player who doesn't make his playing career a priority over getting high, or drunk, or such, I don't want on my team. Even players like Brady have careers a small percentage of their life, more so than 99% of the rest of us working stiffs, they can make the "sacrifice" and still have plenty of time left to "party"...
How about a player who puts his life above all else like he did? He used cannabis to survive. The he’ll with football and he was fine with that. If you’re going to try and ride in on your high horse get the facts straight first.

You guys act like as if enjoying a weed habit is akin to becoming a full blown meth addict.

Yet I'm sure there are many very successful NFL players that get completely hammered on booze a couple times a week, even during the season.

If he wants to come back on a cheap contract, IMO he should be allowed a chance to prove he wants to play.
No.
As you note plenty of players get high.
Most of those players actually like football however.
Therein lies the difference.
DI doesn't want to play football.
He just doesn't want to do anything else either that pays actual money so he's trying to con some team out of money.

Agreed.

I remember in 2018 he had an ankle sprain injury then just went completely AWOL. He didn't even attemtp to go to team meetings or use the rehab facility to get back into shape for a late season surge.

He literally just told the team "meh i'm done for the year, i'm gonna get paid so screw your late season playoff push"

He has zero desire to play football, he just wants a paycheck
