People put way too much stock in sacks, how about the countless massive runs and screens he gave up because all he does is try to get to the QB, and he was constantly out of position. Randy Gregory will be a huge upgrade when he's reinstated. Quinn had 20 tackles the whole season, that's horrendous. He's just not good and a major reason we were 8-8, but you guys can go buy his jersey if you want to.

And you can make up imaginary demons to fight, as you are here. I've got actual statistics supporting the fact that he was far and away this team's best pass rusher last year.

You've got nothing.

That's "horrendous".

You can never have too many good CB's or pass rushers. He needs re-signed.

Considering their huge blunders in personnel, how can they afford not to?

They drafted Randy Gregory, passed on TJ Watt, and drafted and released Taco Charlton. They paid Lawrence big money so he could go Hollywood and have a huge drop off in performance. And along the way, they lost nearly everyone they had playing inside as well. Thanks again Rod!

There's really no other option on the team for that RDE role. Unless you want to go back to Crawford getting you no sacks whatsoever out there and playing defense with one arm tied behind your back? Anyone think that's a good idea?

When you miss badly in the draft, you have to make up for it in free agency. And the Cowboys have missed badly - repeatedly.

This off season is really the Rosetta stone for our front office activities and how they perceived things. We has so much curiosity and so little information, it was only natural that some people would try to work things out on their own and go off on tangents that to most made little sense. What is most interesting about all of these per-decipherment opinions is that they are not always entirely wrong. They often have this "stopped clock" quality of being occasionally, accidentally right about a thing or two. Some people even thought that they knew something about the Cowboys, though they really didn't. Everything they knew was too wrapped up in confusion and uncertainty to be of any value. The greatest takeaway for me from all of this is how certain some fans were, despite being almost entirely wrong. Still a cowboys fan just disappointed I placed so much faith in the front office knowledge base and football acumen.

I think Dallas has a number in mind for 31, and if he wants more then he will be gone, I wouldn't be surprised if he stays in the division.

  1. Dak
  2. Amari
  3. Quinn
After that, this team won't be able to afford $15-million-plus a year for a cornerback.

I'm not sure Quinn being re-signed is a foregone conclusion. He's a pass rush specialist and is weak against teams that run right at him. Be interesting to see if McCarthy is ok with a guy like that.

I saw more “weakness” out of Lawrence on the other side.
He was the guy losing contain and allowing mobile quarterbacks to kill us.

Not sure about how they compared against mobile QBs but DLaw was significantly stronger against the run and is one of the better DEs against the run in general. Quinn isn't even in same conversation there. A perfect example is against the Packers where Quinn took an outside rush on almost every play and the Packers took advantage of it running off tackle at least 10 different times for big yards.

With Quinn teams know they can run inside his pass rush every time.

I think you need to refresh your memory on that game:

I've seen that video and what it doesn't do is support your theory that DLaw isn't as good as Quinn against the run. And the few big plays that went to DLaw's side Hyder was in at DE.

Let's focus on Aaron jones who had over 183 combined yards with the majority of it coming from runs to the right side of our DL. Quinn, Covington and Armstrong were repeatedly beaten here as well as the Vikings game.

It's not intended to. I never referenced that specific game to support my position, you did however. And it now looks bad for you.

Patently false, as the highlights clearly show. Jones big plays came up the middle. Anyone watching the film can see that for themselves. And on one of his touchdowns outside, it was Armstrong getting beaten outside, not Quinn.

Quinn, Covington and Armstrong were repeatedly beaten here as well as the Vikings game.

So now it's three guys instead of just Quinn? Moving those goalposts I see.

Noone is moving goal posts and no things don't look bad for me.

If you objectively watch those highlight there are multiple runs where Quinn either takes an outside rush or he's just bull rushed backwards. DEs have to collapse in on those interior runs but he tends to take an outside rush pretty consistently which essentially takes him out of the play allowing for an easy cut-back off guard.

The Vikings game was an even better example.

I'm glad you think so. That's one anyway.

Look at the overmatched defensive tackles on the interior for where to place your blame. Your reasoning is faulty. And yiu could use some of that objectivity you're talking about yourself.

The Vikings game was an even better example.

It would have to be, the Green Bay game you cited was a terrible one.

Byron Jones is a much better player than Robert Quinn.

That's why the guys at PFF created their system. While it has it's flaws, it's 100x better than just using the number of sacks or number of tackles to grade a player's performance.

I'm tired of hearing about Jaylon's number of tackles or Byron's lack of interceptions to create a false narrative.
