It's hard but the OL guys are likeable and so is Gallup so far. Dak and Cooper were likeable but now don't really seem to be considering the team as a whole. I'm not a big take a discount guy but I am big on know your true value and don't demand a bigger slice of the pie than you have earned. Both seem to want to be paid like they are top 3 at their position when they are at best top 10 and arguments exist why even that may be a stretch. I think my biggest rooting attraction going forward will be the new coaching staff and the overall success of the team. I could find myself rooting hard for Jordan Lewis because I think he was not treated fairly by the last coaching staff and then hopefully some young defensive guys like Gifford, Jackson, Wilson, Jelks make a jump and become likeable.
That's about where I'm at.

I'm completely fascinated to see what this new staff does w/ Lewis. Does he continue to be inconsistent and not play a lot, or were his problems due to that horrific coaching staff? I truly do not know, which is why I don't argue about it. However, it won't be long until we know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went to buy my nephew a Cowboys jersey for Christmas. While browsing I realized there inst a player on the team I really like. (except Martin, Frederick, and Quinn whos jerseys arent available)
No jersey was purchased. Thanks Jerry for building such an unlikable / soft team.
I feel the same way. Maybe Pollard.

After a disappointing season and for a while now I have been looking for a player to hang my hat on .

Tired of just rooting for the laundry looking for a real football player to get behind and root for Sure I like Dak and Big Fred . We have players that put up numbers but I see no substance and have not for a while now .
We used to have players that were larger than life that impacted the team and the league, that struck fear in opponents . We have a good Oline but none of the could carry Larry Allens jock

Emmitt and Irvin . Roger , Tony Dorsett , the Manster , Haley , Bob Hayes Bob Lilly Drew Pearson

I compare Captain America throwing to The Fastest Man in the World to Troy throwing to Micheal Irvin then Dak to Im going to tap out or drop the ball at the worst time Cooper or Gallup .

Witten looked like Jackie Smith against the Eagles .

Other than Dak and Jeff Heath these guys just seem SOFT and hard to like , Is it just me or dose anyone else have this feeling
If you have to settle...

Talking about thin skin.....yikes.

I don't recall saying anything about fans discussing Dak's contract value or salary cap %. Kind of weird.

Maybe instead of being so defensive you could read what I wrote.

I mentioned several players include Jaylon, LVE, T Smith.... You can pretend fans here have not created their message board identity trolling every thread that mentions certain players all season long. I'm just calling it like I see it. Its not about criticism of our players. Its beyond that.
Right. People can claim they don't hate until they are blue in the face but when you take the time to constantly highlight every negative and attempt to undermine every positive about a player, you're hating. You may not technically "hate" the guy, but you're acting like an internet hater when it's all negative and the most positive thing you can say is "I don't hate the guy".

I just don't see why people don't own their hating. I criticize the hell out of Zeke. I have high expectations of a RB drafted that high and making that much money to have his explosiveness evaporate that quickly. I don't think he is a generational talent, I'm not that impressed by rushing titles which mean he's carried the ball more than others while being less efficient, etc, etc. etc. I don't technically "hate" the guy but I damn sure ride his butt on this message board so I'm hating on him. I hated on Dez. I own my hate. Ain't going to run from it.

I agree and there seems to be more and more like this.

I'm with you OP. I'll always root for the star, of course, but there's no favorite player.

I soured on Zeke with his shenanigans over the summer. Dak is trying to hold the team hostage to become the highest paid quarterback after another 8-8 season. Cooper disappears for entire games. Witten is past his prime, even if he returns.

On defense, I bought a Jaylon color rush jersey, but he's all talk. I like Vander Esch but let's see if his body holds up, reminds me of Dat Nguyen. DLaw is another one who runs his mouth but doesn't show up on the field.

Sorry guys, before you come at me, I'm not hating on our team. I'll be there at the stadium cheering for all of them. I'm just not a passionate fan of any of them individually; not like I was about Michael Irvin and his passion, Dez Bryant, or silent leaders like Troy Aikman and Jay Novacek.

If we draft a quarterback, maybe I'll roll with him. :)

Nobody in NFL history and except maybe 1 guy could carry Larry Allen's jock. Tyron Smith is special, Zack Martin is special, Fred Beard is special especially with his story Beard is an easy guy to cheer for. Larry Allen was only on 1 of those Super Bowl teams anyways. None are Larry Allen but Larry Allen is top 2 All Time.
NFL is different today. No players strike fear into the oppenant. These guys play for paychecks today and not so much for the love of the game. To me that's the biggest difference I think you're experiencing.
NFL is a far different league than it used to be. I hate what it has become. The biggest difference is that stats are more important than team success.

:hammer:

I'm seeing this as well with today's NFL... It's gotten soft...

Would you define "root for" as someone you would be proud to wear their jersey around? I think we all generally root for individual players on the team to do well, but our favorites earn a special place. I would consider these traits.

-Tenure with team(3+ years with team)
-Sustained Success
-Delivers in key moments
-Plays with passion
-Mostly likeable player on/off the field

The players that check mostly all those boxes for me are:

-Tyron Smith
-Zack Martin
-Travis Frederick
-Dak Prescott
-Jason Witten
-Sean Lee
-Zeke Elliott

Amari hasn't been on the team long enough for me yet to be truly vested as a fan. Demarcus Lawrence hasn't sustained the consistent level of success. Byron Jones isn't here because he hasn't made enough big plays.

The rest either haven't been here long enough to have a vested interest, or impact hasn't regularly been there yet. For example Jayon and LVE.

Everyone has their own criteria, but thinking about specific players I feel vested in that's usually what comes to mind. I'll at least use it for who to buy jerseys for.

Soft is a good definition. These guys are just out there having fun and collecting a paycheck for it. If games get tough they don't get tough.
Oh well! We tried is the motto and.....
We know we're the better team.....
They got lucky!

It doesn't affect their star status or the paycheck.

Zeke's a fun guy, nice guy. But not a leader. (You can't be a clown and lead men)
Dak's okay. Nice guy probably. But not a leader.
Michael Bennett came in and tried to get a fire started but......

If a team takes on the personality of its coach, and we had Coach Clown, what did we expect?

I root for anybody making plays during the game, but I got no favorites.

My pet cats are the overachievers who outperform their contract/expectations and who receive more than their fair share of criticism because people have lofty expectations. I hate on players who I feel underperform expectations considering where they were drafted or how much they get paid.

Examples of the overachievers:
Jeff Heath - not his fault the team won't invest in a better safety and the team needs JAGs if they are going to pay superstars well.
Dak - 4 years for $4 million dollars for a 4th round pick thrust into start opening day due to injury. Can't beat that value with a stick.

Example of underachievers:
Zeke - sorry, we drafted a "generational" back with a special blend of speed and power. Lost the home run ability in year 2. I can only imagine how good he would be if he improved upon his rookie year.
Byron - with all that athleticism the dude can't make an individual play to force a take away to safe his life. We need some defensive play makers and I was hoping this dude would fit the bill.

I do like Tony Pollard a lot. And also Gallup.

On defense its really hard. I would go with the underdog and to me thats Jordan Lewis.

But when i watch D-HotBuzz-Lawrence or J.Smith play i feel the need to puke in front of my TV. Well, i can live with a CB making business decissions on the field but a LB ?

Because of the Elliott contract, we are now having issues extending our franchise QB.
