From what Jones himself is saying, he thinks the time is now for this team. If so, that means spending. Not only to keep what you have, but to add to it as well. I expect one of the most active free agency periods we've seen in years.

Same, I really think if we fill some holes in FA the draft (especially with a trade back) could be a jackpot

I expect us to look at defensive linemen in free agency - specifically defensive tackles, and then use the draft to try to restock our depleted secondary. That would be my guess.

If it includes DT and Safety then ok. Keeping Jones would be nice.

That's what I'm expecting, a mid-range defensive tackle (and maybe a lower tier one as well) and a mid-range safety like Clinton-Dix coming in too.

I think that Donovan Wilson will get a real opportunity at strong safety this year as well.

Is that 100 million instant or over 10 years. Geez. Players will gobble that up. Starting with Dak. If his agent knows then he will be wanting 40 million. And Cooper wanting 20-22.

According to Spotrac, Cooper's market value is currently about $98.6 million over five years for an annual salary of about $19.7 million.

I'm with Big Mc: "First goal is to get as many of those guys back as we can," McCarthy said. "And then see what we can add."

Make the deals you can to keep as much of the team together as possible and then see where you stand. Jerry said it without saying it: Dak will be in Dallas. If he has to Franchise tag and match, he will (he probably has a good idea of what teams will offer already).

I like Wilson. He made some plays last year. Will Heath be here.

Reports are coming out that under the new CBA, salary caps are expected to rise by $100 million. The time to get deals done is before that new benchmark is set, not after. After it's done every player in the league will be raising up their asking price and you'll be kicking yourself that you didn't get your players locked in ahead of it.

Except nobody is gonna want to be that guninea pig and sign and get shorted. Dak is gonna get tagged and wait til FA shakes out. He will wait till Tannehill and Brdigewater get signed- and if the cap amount comes out before their deals he will be in a much better position.

The whole FA market is gonna be a wild ride if that 100 mill figure is true!

Cowboys meet with Amari Cooper's representatives at combine and reportedly want to sign him before free agency
Dak Prescott may be the headliner, but, for now, the Cowboys[/URL] are shifting their focus on re-signing receiver Amari Cooper.

On Thursday night, Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News reported that the Cowboys' brass -- which included team owner/general manager Jerry Jones -- met with Cooper's representatives in Indianapolis, the site of the NFL combine. During the meeting, it was understood that contract talks with Cooper and the team "now will intensify" between now and March 18, when Cooper is slated to become an unrestricted free agent.

So after meeting with Dak's agent they realized that Daks deal was going to be more challenging than Amari's

The cap is only rising from $188.2M in 2019 to a projected $200M in 2020, a difference of $11.8M. That said, that helps Dallas in trying to retain guys like Cooper, Jones, and Quinn (I left off Dak as I am a proponent of assigning the non-exclusive tag and working out a trade for draft picks then signing Tom Brady to a 2-year deal).

I think you're right. The window to get deals done has sadly passed and I think the players in position will now wait to see what the new numbers look like and jack up their asking price on the open market, where suddenly every team is 'rich'.

The Joneses and the Cowboys missed their opportunity.

It must be 2021 when the big jump takes place. But if you know that, you can use creative accounting to make deals based on that information and future numbers.
