So, he's not a top 5 or even a top 10 safety. He's a solid player who comes at a cheap price. He's not a playmaker? Tell that to Derek Carr.
That play is so overrated by Heath fans.

Carr was running at an angle, out of bounds and trying to extend for the pylon and lost the ball, Heath was in the vicinity. In fact, it was another bad angle taken by Heath as Carr beat him to the spot. Heath's presence caused Carr to make a play that he couldn't but he barely touched Carr's back as Carr already passed him.

Heath showed who he was when he needed to stop fleet-footed Jared Goff for the first down in the playoff game. Instead, his poor instincts caused him to react incorrectly and then stand there as Goff sealed the playoff win.

Heath knocked the snot out of him actually. That play won the game.

If you are looking for guys to blame for the LA loss, Heath is wayyyyy down that list.

Heath is a great player to have on any team
1) as a flex backup and special teamer
2) at the right price

Okay. Carr scores that TD and Oakland wins if Heath didn't hustle and force him to reach the ball out. Its the definition of making a play.

Not to mention he knocked down a pass in the end zone the play before hustling to Carr.

We have a LB that looks like a lost child in a Walmart on the field, but he gets a break
from the same fans that bash Heath... smh

Cowboys defense has a ton of holes. At least a couple of positions will be manned by guys like Heath, who aren’t great.

I'll take #31 Roy Williams any day.

Shame what happened to him. Looked to be a stud his first 2-3 years then towards the end he looked disinterested.
Oh yeah, you got me there. I had the two reversed. You win this round lol

Sign him to a team friendly deal. Sign a FA or draft a S.

With free agent like Ha Ha
FS - Clinton-Dix
SS - Woods

Backups - Heath, Wilson

Drafting a guy like McKinney
FS - Woods
SS - McKinney

Backups - Heath, Wilson

Jeff Heath isn't responsible for the lack of talent put around him.
I imagine he'd be quite improved if there happened to be an actual presence
at DT. Not to mention a LB that's not out of position.

The anointed Wilson couldn't get on the field. Thompson was so awful that
Heath came back early with both shoulders injured and requiring surgery.

Just sayin'.

I agree and I am by no means blaming heath. I am blaming this insidious culture of "we like our guys" - just pause and ask yourself how many years it's been since the Cowboys had any player with any degree of competence or talent playing in that spot - does anyone come to mind after Darren Woodson? Anytime there have been opportunities to get better - the organization says - we like our guys. This issue is very much organizational and very much flows from the GM on down and it infects everything it touches. From poor drafting to holding on to guys when we should move on or improve a position.

That shouldn't stop them from trying to improve and churn the roster. See I have no problem if there simply isn't a good option out there to get better at a position. I get it, no every draft or FA period is going to yield a better talent. However that hasn't been the case with the Cowboys over the last couple of years. We wasted a first rounder on Taco Charlton and he isn't even on the team anymore. We wasted a 2nd round pick on Hill and he looks like a bonafide bust. Surely we could have gotten better and there were better options for Safety in those spots and there were better options at Safety in FA. But this team did nothing, they kept at it with Heath.

Yes. He is responsible for scheme and 11 ST spots. Any mistake or bad play is on him. 100%.

I swear, so many posters can't see nuthin' but black and white. Players either suck or they are great. This weak form of evaluation spikes when guys need a new contract.
I don’t know about the other 10 but did you isolate on Heath one game on STs? I have for many games for as long as he’s been here. If you have and come to a different conclusion other than he’s not very good on STs, you have no clue what a player is suppose to be doing on STs.....PERIOD!

You have some valid points there.
Drafting Charlton over some kid named "What", or something was a drastic mistake. (lol... Watt/jk)
Many wanted Juan Thornhill over Tristan Hill. Dipping their toes in the water at the trade deadline
and inquiring about Adams exposed their realization they'd made a mistake, imo.

Maybe, just maybe (fingers crossed), the procrastination of the FO in the past on addressing these
two positions brings the opportunity to grab a top SS, such as Xavier McKinney.
The DT position is very deep. There should be options available in the 2nd round.
Hopefully, they don't screw it up this time.
