  • NBC Sports Boston's Tom Curran believes chatter that free agent Tom Brady could end up in San Francisco is "real."
Curran, who is as plugged into the Patriots as any reporter out there, thinks the Pats and Titans are the leaders in the clubhouse for the living legend, but that the 49ers are "closing hard." Curran is of the opinion that the talk is coming from both Brady and the Niners. Jimmy Garoppolo could come off the books at nearly no cost to the 49ers while clearing $22.4 million in cap space. 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan has a good relationship with Bill Belichick and obviously has vivid memories of Brady engineering the Pats' 28-3 Super Bowl comeback in 2017. This is starting to get fun.

If true, looks like they are trying to take a page out of the playbook from the Broncos when they signed Peyton for 2 SB runs. In this example, I think they probably would cut Jimmy G though and gain that space back to sign Brady.
I understand what you’re saying and makes sense but who was the qb when Peyton went ?

Would be interesting to see if Jimmy G goes back to NE, if this happened.

Assume 49ers would trade him, but probably for a bigger package, no?

We only got one 2nd round pick - not two.

BB blew that one... We should have gotten more.
BB was POed because Kraft wouldn't let him trade Brady. That was a pout trade.

Ridiculous theory. Anyone who thinks Belichick would cut off his nose to spite his face doesn't understand how competitive the man is.

Only thing I can think of to understand why JimmyG was dumped for a 2 when his value was obviously much higher. And everyone knew it.

What's your theory as to why BB dumped him for a 2nd?

Very highly unlikely
Jimmy G just was just back from ACL surgery this year.
