Fish brings up the topic in his latest column, but doesn’t provide any answers. What say you, Cowboys Zoners?

https://www.si.com/nfl/cowboys/news...-exclusive-tag-for-dak-prescott-at-33-million

Given the gap (allegedly - we don’t know) in where both sides stand, this looks like it’s going to a franchise tag later this month.

Does anyone really think that another team would give up two 1’s for Dak Prescott? The difference between the two tags is $6M, not chump change, that’s a good player who could make a difference.

And so what if a team does sign him? Two first round picks is plenty of ammo to package and move up and get one of the stud QBs coming out of this draft.

Am I crazy here? Why would they put the more expensive tag on him?

Another team does not have to give up (2) 1st round draft picks. That may be the 'rule' for assigning the non-exclusive tag but Dallas can easily accept less if they feel that the contract is too much for them and they are willing to accept less than the (2) 1st round picks.

Therefore, Dallas should simply say to themselves they can't sign Dak to a $30M+ and look at signing a 2-year stop gap QB until they can develop a new starting QB via the draft.

We know what Dak is and just because his buddy Kellen Moore aided him in throwing more in 2019 to boost his numbers does not suddenly make Dak a Top 5 QB as the one stat that is most important: 8-8.

Bill Belichick and the Patriots would gladly give away two late 1st round picks for Dak if the Cowboys put the "non-exlusive" franchise tag on Dak. I guarantee it. Jerry and the Cowboys know this, hence why they said they would instead slap an "exclusive" tag on Dak, thus not allowing any team to bid for Dak. This would guarantee Dak stays a Cowboy for 2020 and allows the team time to work out a long term new contract extension.

While possibly true, if New England offered (2) 1st round picks for Dak then I say take it and run.

Sign Tom Brady to a 2-year deal and use the 1st round picks to help build this team:

#17 CB CJ Henderson

#23 S Xavier McKinney

Or Dallas could package the #17 & #23 picks to move up to #5 in the draft and possibly select QB Tua wherein he could sit a year to learn from Brady and then take over in 2021.

Lol, if you can't tap dance, then you are 'odd.'

Basically it's like trading Dak to the Pats for Tom Brady plus two first round picks. Anyone who says that they wouldn't do that must be out of their mind. Tom Brady is the one or two year stop gap until the rookie is ready to play, and there are plenty of great quarterbacks in this draft.

Look, I don't want this to turn into a "bash Dak" thread. Yes, part of this boils down to whether you believe he can win you a Super Bowl (if you don't believe that he can, this is a no-brainer). But as I wrote before, you have to take some calculated gambles to win in this league and spending an extra $6 million here makes no sense.

No one is giving up two 1's, and if they do, you take it and build this team into a champion. That's what having 3 first round picks (plus Tom Brady) would allow you to do.

Definitely go non exclusive. If he is signed you get two first round picks and you still have 35 million to spend elsewhere. Heck sign Bridgewater get two first round picks and have case left over. You could keep Jones for all the people who think we can't live without a CB that makes zero plays.

Because Jerry has always intended to sign him. I think it is a terrible move but never doubted Jerry's intention to do so.

Ultimately, if you don't value your quarterback at a higher dollar figure than 2 other quarterbacks of similar age in your own conference, then you shouldn't be signing him. Pay him like the elite quarterback you believe he is or don't pay him at all.
