Only thing I can think of to understand why JimmyG was dumped for a 2 when his value was obviously much higher. And everyone knew it.

What's your theory as to why BB dumped him for a 2nd?
What are you taking about? The guy was a backup quarterback with 8 weeks remaining on his contract. How much draft capital do you think a guy with 8 weeks left before free agency is worth?

Quite honestly, I’m amazed he got a 2 which, at the time the deal was made, looked like it would be in the 30’s. No one is giving up a first rounder to rent a guy for 8 weeks. I believe Belichick wanted him out of the AFC and got the best deal out there.

That makes sense then. But do you give up on the future of jimmy g ? You don’t trust him clearly if you’re throwing him away after you traded 2 2nds to get him

Thats far from "clearly". They had to trade Jimmy b/c he was in the final year of his contract and they couldn't pay him and Brady. So, they cashed out before losing him to free agency.

I'm talking about why NE traded him to SF. But, SF has paid Jimmy all his guaranteed money so they can move on without their cap getting hit.

If SF swaps Jimmy for Brady, all that means is that they think they have better chance with Brady......which is understandable.

Kittle is exactly the kind of TE Brady needs. So, it makes sense.

Jimmy g was in his final year when the Patriots traded him.
Oh I thought you meant now. Now they would shed his big contract and get Brady plus draft picks for trading jimmy g . If this is true. I doubt it happens tho

Jimmy's big contract is out of guaranteed money. It all been paid. They save 22.5 million cutting him or trading him.

That’s huge. If they can get draft picks for him and Brady wow. But do you give up on his youth and possible future with young qb

Its Brady and with the Niners OL, run game, and Kittle......... that has a better shot of winning a super bowl than with Jimmy G. You can't plan long term in the NFL. You go all in and then rebuild. The alternative is what we do........ mediocrity. Sure, its predictable but gets us nowhere.

What are you talking about? Can you discuss something w/o that ridiculous grade school attempt at weak insults?

The entire NFL world considered it a theft. If you were amazed he brought a 2nd, you're obviously out of touch.

The Garropolo trade was mishandled. Everyone thinks so but you. There were trade offers on the table before the season that BB scoffed at. And then suddenly dumped him. The whole sequence was not how BB handles things, it was very strange.

If you think it's all they could've gotten, that's fine, that's your opinion. Others have other opinions. And that's OK. Throwing weak crapp at people makes your argument appear weak, though.

LOL!! "The entire NFL world??" All you have is weak rumor about what they might have been able to maybe possibly get from the usual mediots who don't have the first clue what they are talking about.

OK I guess I will put you in the category of one of those who believes everything he reads. You have nothing substantial to back up your thesis. Just rumor and innuendo. The likeliest theory is this: Belichick wanted to keep Garoppolo that season because the Patriots needed a backup QB and it enabled Belichick to kick the "which QB should I keep?" can as far down the road as possible. So whether or not the pre-season rumors about the Browns being interested in Garoppolo were true doesn't matter because Belichick simply wanted to keep the player. There is value in holding onto the guy until the last moment because then you have him if you need him. But when he got to the point where there were only 8 weeks left in the season and they were against the trading deadline, an opportunity arose where he could get a 2nd rounder plus a decent backup in return from an NFC team (even though Hoyer wasn't officially part of the trade, it was obvious the 49ers would cut him and NE would pick him up).

It is foolhardy to think someone would give up a 1st rounder for a backup QB with 8 weeks left on his contract. When in NFL history has that ever happened?

We only got one 2nd round pick - not two.

BB blew that one... We should have gotten more.

I forgot where I saw this, but that trade was a great deal for the 49ers in return for something they did for the Patriots. I'll have to try to find it.

You may be thinking of something I posted above: Brian Hoyer was not officially part of the trade but the 49ers cut him so that the Patriots could sign him.

Actually I was wrong. This is where I saw it. Go to the 1:35 mark

Whichever teams signs Brady will simply be rewarding him for the success he brought to the Patriots who he gave team friendly contracts to while racking up Lombardi's. He don't have that much left in the tank.
