I agree but I also see him flying under other team's radar which gives our FA a better chance to resign him at a reasonable price. If he gets a better deal elsewhere then good for him, we'll replace him.

To be honest I don't want him unless it's for 3rd and 15 situations. He's a a Marinelli type of player who doesn't hold his own against the run.

He would be a good rotational guy for passing situations, or would be okay as a starter if paired with a stronger player at the other DT spot. As it is, we don't have that, so there are deficiencies up the middle.

He's alright...if they can bring him back for cheap then it might be worth it. The sack numbers weren't great but he ranked pretty high for Hurries among his position of interior DL:

Exactly. Some fans just like to spin the most dramatic scenario they can. Like you, I believe if someone "quit", they should be blamed, and there is no excuse whether they like the coach or not. A player like that would not be worth having. But I didn't see "quit". It's not as if the DT position had proven to be outstaning in past years and suddenly just quit in 2019. The brief time we had Irving in the middle of the D-Line is the only outstanding play we've seen since Hatcher in 2013.
Exactly.

This. Sacks are just a small sliver of what makes a DT good and Collins was pretty much just a gap shooter. LBers do not like DTs who shoot gaps especially against the run. Sets them up to be mauled as we saw happen to Jaylon and LVE against the Packers and Vikes on multiple occasions.
Facts.

If we could easily upgrade, why do we have him in the first place?
Scheme lol that’s why we drafted guys because of our “scheme” lol you’re right though. Should have been upgraded a while ago.

Ya he has a burst at the snap but that was his game. He would shoot himself out of running plays and at times taking out the DE letting OL get to the second and third levels. I don't know if he was coached to do that or that was all on him. Either way it boosts his hurry and sack numbers but hurts our overall run D.

He was a 4th round pick. No one but CZ ever saw him as some "freakish athlete" with "huge potential".
Actually he was taken with the 66th pick in 2016. He hasn't played like a top 75 prospect.

Third-rounder. Should have got better returns.
He is 11th among DTs in sacks since he was drafted, and was top-5 in pressure rate last year.

You're happy with that in the first round, it's a home run in the third.

Uh, yes he has. He was the 9th DT off the board and he's been a better player than like 6 of them.

Cuz he sucks. Despite all the homers claiming he was a breakout candidate every year.
I wouldn’t say a DT getting you 4-5 sacks a year sux but his price has to match his production and I suspect his price will be higher than we would want to pay

I'm not sure what you guys expected to begin with. Seems you guys raised the bar for him.

I'm not sure how much they follow the draft but it proves difficult to get those kind of impact interior guys outside the 2nd round, maybe they thought and hoped
( just as I did) the Cowboys discovered a hidden gem in Maliek Collins much in the way:
- ATL did with DT Grady Jarrett in the 5th round ...
- or Titans Jurrell Casey in the 3rd round
- or Cincy with 8 time pro bowler Geno Atkins (4th round)
- or Bears Akiem Hicks in the 3rd round.
- Snack Harrison was undrafted gem and ended up more of a dominant 1 tech than pass rushing 3 tech/ ditto for Eddie Goldman per bears (2nd rd)
- Kyle WIlliams per Buffalo -

otherwise looking back at past drafts, you're more likely will have to just have to hit on your 1st or 2nd round pick on that impact DT (much like Trysten Hill was counted on to be in the 2nd round)
- Chris jones - 2nd round
- JJ watts 1st
- Aaron Donald 1st
- Fletcher Cox 1st
- Ndamukong Suh 1st
- Gerald McCoy 1st
- Marcell Dareus -Buff 1st
- Kwann Short Car- 2nd rd

Maliek is actually young, and this is the youth movement they are looking for long term, but if he were the true impact interior force they coveted, he would have been re-signed for long term
quite some time ago, and they never would have drafted Trysten Hill in the very early rounds last year.

They may likely throw him a B-tier (cap friendly serviceable-like offer to remain, but it definitely wont be ground breaking as he would go against Stephen Jones motto and philosophy of
" not giving average players good money contracts " - Maliek is in that Hitchen, Church, Leary group of serviceable types, but not difference makers.
