I'm not really concerned with the tag price, I'm questioning his commitment to the team long term. Without that the tag is just paying a ransom until we agree to pay a ransom long term.
It's also not a stretch to question his commitment to doing whatever it takes to win this season without a longer term contract with the big guaranteed money.
Is he going to take on the linebacker to get that crucial first down? Is he going to hold the ball that extra half second to make the play knowing he's going to get drilled?
Playing on the tag is much more than just a place holder for a season. The risks to the player and his future earning potential are very real. The risk to the team not getting the very best effort in certain situations are very real.
It's a no win situation. If the team is convinced that Dak truly is THE guy then pay him handsomely, even at future projected market rate. If the team really thinks Dak is simply a good QB which "you can win with" but not THE guy than bite the bullet, pull the band aid off, take your short term lumps and move on.
Given what we know about the offers Dak has turned down it seems pretty clear what the team thinks of him. We'll find out if they have the sack to be aggressive, risk some marketing and merch revenue in order to reset for future success.
