Probably just doing their due diligence here, but could this be a potential contingency plan for LVE? The Cowboys rarely draft players they haven’t met with before the draft and all.

Kenneth Murray is a popular man. The Oklahoma linebacker told NFL.com’s James Palmer that he’s set to meet with 15 teams in the coming weeks (via Charean Williams of ProFootballTalk.com).

Murray revealed that he’ll start his workout circuit with the Texans on March 18th before having visits “back-to-back-to-back.” The Ravens, Raiders, Cowboys and Cardinals are among the teams that the linebacker is expected to meet with.

After earning a second-team All-Big 12 nod in 2018, Murray got first-team recognition following a standout 2019 campaign. The junior finished the season with 102 tackles, four sacks, and four passes defended.

Murray is in contention to be the second linebacker off the board after Clemson’s Isaiah Simmons, and he could be selected as early as midway through the first round. He didn’t participate in Oklahoma’s pro day today after having tweaked his hamstring during the 40-yard dash at the Combine. Fortunately, he told Palmer that he’s almost back to full health.

“The hamstring is doing good,” Murray told Palmer. “I’ll be fully healthy in a couple of days.”

Just read a tweet couple days ago that the Cowboys really like this kid. Of course, it's way too early and anyone could say that but he could very well be plan B if Henderson is gone but just my guess. Imagine .......Murray, LVE and Jaylon Smith

Honestly. That would be something.

Seems like a logical step to have him in. Even if LVE is healthy, we still need someone to fill in for Lee sooner than later. Not to mention all of our linebackers have had their share of injury history. So a little depth wouldn’t exactly be a bad investment.

Good.

I’m a big fan of this kid and would prefer to have him ahead of Delpit/McKinney at 17.

LB is a low-key big need on this team. There’s no guarantee with LVE’s health, Lee is yet another year older (and may not be back), Jaylon took a huge step back last season, and the rest of our depth are rotational types.

I’m not agreeing with people that linebacker is a big need. I can get a linebacker in free agency if I’m looking for a backup plan to LVE. That’s a luxury. I need a premier player in that secondary or defensive line.
I mean, I'll buy that LB is a need. Jaylon regressed, LVE might be going the way of Andy Katzenmoyer with an early retirement. Lee is an overpriced backup option who is as likely as not to break like glass and be of no help.

But also: unless we're switching to the 34 defense, we don't need to go crazy throwing resources at the LB position. 4-3 linebackers aren't hard to find. To say we have a need at 4-3 linebacker is, to me, like saying we have a need at kicker or punter -- it's true, but it doesn't need to be addressed until the middle rounds of the draft at the earliest, or by scooping up cheap free agent options.

We need to keep our eye on the ball and fix the pass-rush and fix the secondary. Not get swept up falling in love with another 1st or 2nd round 43 linebacker.

They met with Logan Wilson, also. Don't forget Luke Gifford will be in the mix as well.

He seems worthy of a looksee . . .

105 tackles in 2019 is pretty impressive stuff.

Needless to say, the Sooners do have some good talent there,

Pass...pass...pass!

Kenneth Murray is strictly an arm tackler. He refuses to stick his helmet in there and lay the wood during tackles. That might work in college but NFL players will very likely stay on their feet and break loose from arm tackles.

I can't see them dipping again at LB that high unless he's the bpa by a mile.

I think they'll get their contingency plan in fa (Lee or other) and pray LVE is ok and maybe take a LB day 3. Of course that's just MO and who knows how the reports on LVE will turn out leading to April
