I liked him and wanted to keep him, but I understood that we were in need of OL at the time and you don't get something for nothing. Based on how the OL turned out, it was a poor move for us.
It was. I think Ward was gonna get cut and they was their way of getting something out of a guy they were going to cut.

Lol, it seems like just yesterday so many fans were crowning Richard the next HC and talking about how great he was. Typical over reaction.

Not gonna lie when he grabbed the one Eagle player during pregame I was sold on him lol

I think they should look to extend him now. I think with a competent system in place he's gonna blow up. Richard was a cluster and had a whole defense regress. Every single starter regressed from the yr before. Too many moving parts not moving together
Why would he do that?

KC originally asked for Olumba and they told them no, and offered Ward, as you are correct, he was probably going to be cut. Olumba was having a far better TC than Ward. We had 2 or 3 OL go down with injuries including Frederick with GBS. We needed help at back up C which Ehringer could play.

It was a good trade at the time. But yet how many will blame the FO for making a stupid trade. It is hindsight whining. But yet they will not give credit and blame other teams for releasing or not signing players like Su'a-filo or Looney.

How about all the teams that passed on Woods until we made a trade to get him in the 6th round.

Yep, another example of FO brilliance, and player evaluation. They could use a good cheap talent like Ward at CB right now.

Need DAL to sign or draft a FS, Woods doesn't deserve to be given a free strarting spot.
Ward was an undrafted free agent - all 32 teams under evaluated him. And we were desperate for O-Line help after losing Ron Leary from the previous season and Travis Frederick going down with his illness, so trading our #5 CB was actually pretty reasonable at the time.

Hindsight is 20/20. Easy to say that now and act smart.

At the time we had 4 young CBs that were better than him. (We still do for the time being)

We needed help with OL depth. Who could've known her get hurt right away and never play?

Not hindsight. Ward was better than Olumba, and the FO caved on giving up Ward instead of Olumba for who? Edinger was a backend roster guy. All they needed was a camp body to get thru practice. CB>OG Everytime.

All 32 teams underevaluated many players (Romo, Bease), but when a player is in your camp and your coaches n scouts evaluate the player and let him go, that's a talent evaluation issue. I'm aware of the circumstances at the time...they still dropped the ball.

....and Dallas traded him in August 2018 for an o-lineman no longer on the team. Yet another great move by the Dallas front office.
or another mis-eval by the previous coaching staff.

...and to think we traded away Ward
Even in KC he was initially vying for a backup job. He’s one of those guys that just seems to show up and do well on game day once given the chance.

Shows Dallas does have an eye for talent...
