Let 'em both walk? Build around Zeke, Pollard and Gallup?

Just rolling this around in my mind. What would be the results if the team just let Amari and Dak both walk then loaded up on defense and signed a Brady, Brees or Rivers to lead the offense? Let the old vet hand off to Zeke 20 times a game and throw it to him another 5? Draft a defensive beast (or three) and get one of the 10 NFL caliber receivers in this year's draft to pair with Gallup who I think is about to make another leap. Then bring back Quinn and Byron and play like the Titans and Niners did last year, with a guy who CAN make the throws when asked that Tannehill can't and who won't choke on the biggest stage like Jimmy G. I would wager a team thusly constructed wins 12 games next year and has HFA in the playoffs.

No way they let Dak walk. He will at least play a year on the tag. Dak will not turn it down. he will bet on himself under the tag just as he bet on himself playing out his contract last season.

If Cooper is gone, it may not be as devastating as many think, it will just change their draft strategy. As many fans will not like it, as it may mean one less defensive player they could draft. However it opens up cap room to sign some defensive players as well.

I’m with you: Dak is average and Cooper is soft and injury prone with those feet. They are not guys you’re going to win anything big with. Build a tough and talented TEAM instead with good coaching for a change and get a QB that can hit a receiver in stride. Sign me up.

You can’t let Dak walk. Worst case scenario is he’s the devil you know.

I don't agree that Dak is average and Cooper has been pretty productive through his injuries. My thought is not necessarily about them as individuals but about the team philosophy. I don't like tying up a third of the cap on three players which is exactly what we would have if we sign Dak and Amari to the deals they want. Dak (35) , Zeke (15) and Amari (20) would be getting 70 million a year. I'm sorry.. if we do that then this team will never win anything. I don't want to watch the team that they can afford to assemble if they construct the team that way. I really don't.

Brady would cost more then 33 million to get him to Dallas. Maybe Winston would sign cheap. Everything else you wrote sounds good in theory.

You don’t build around skill positions, you build around a QB.
2000 Baltimore Ravens and 2019 49ers are good examples of maybe not having to fully build fully around a qb. The point is to have an identity and leadership to have the knowledge to build around that identity. Cowboys issue is that JJ and company are building around the past to duplicate what Jimmy did - unsuccessfully.

One had a historic defense, and outside of Kittle, it's not as though Jimmy G has a TON to work with.

But not really the point, let's say we go into the draft for a QB, every QB has different strengths and weaknesses - one WR might not be good for a QB while that same WR will have good chemistry with another. The default position here is, you don't rid of a QB to benefit a WR, you bring in skill positions to benefit the QB. You build around the MVP in probably all of sports.

2000 Bmore Ravens with Jamal Lewis and Shannon Sharpe (close enough to a dominant WR back then) along with their dominant defense? Dilfer... enough said. Lol. It worked for a year.

Which team has won a Super Bowl tying up 20% of the cap on its QB and a third of the cap on just three players? The list is probably equally empty. By the way the 90's Cowboys and Broncos were both built around their running backs. They had a QB capable of greatness in their back pocket.. but both those teams won because of the running back and of course.. playing good defense.

:clap:You covered it all Jazzy (lol).....I def see Dak signing the tag and like you said, betting on himself for 2020. God help us if he gets to the NFCCG or Super Bowl. (lol)

Back-to-back Super Bowl titles. As long as we're fantasizing I figured we might as well go all the way.
