The Colts gave up their 1st round pick, #13. This is big for those people hoping the Cowboys get a shot at one of the top DTs. If Kinlaw is on the board at #17, there is now a good chance the 49ers draft him. Why? because Kinlaw will cost them a fraction of what Buckner signed with the Colts for - $21 million a year.

Colts got taken on this IMO. However SF has a lot of high profile players, so they will need the cap space.

There will be a quality pick available at one of our biggest need positions when 17 comes around. It's not gonna be a problem. We will pick someone obvious, half the people here will love the pick and the other half will hate it. Same every year.

Its A+ management by SF. Spend the 7th pick to draft him. Get 4 years on rookie contract out of him & get the 13th pick back for him. Start the process over. That's how you stay ahead of the curve on managing your roster.

A Belichick move. They knew they weren't going to keep that DL together so they got out in front of it. The Cowboys should have done that with Martin when they had the chance.

Niners had their Cinderella season. No 6th ring for you!

Don't the Cowboys pick 17th?

I don't think this is the right move for the Colts unless they are convinced that Jordan Love wasn't the guy.

LOL this isn't even remotely the same. The Cowboys DID extend Martin, who is a substantially better player than Buckner.

The takes around here are at an all-time stupidity level right now.

Love is rated the 4th QB by most and with a position as risky as QB in the 1st round, they might be thinking a long in the tooth QB is a better shot and use that 1st for a D player. They just saw the best WR in the game leave their division and have to feel good about that.

I know they extended him and wanted them to trade him at the time, get picks and save cap space. He was the best RG in the game at that time on a good OL, they didn't need the best RG.

With the Niners at pick 13 now, and losing Buckner I think we can officially forget Kinlaw falling past 13 or Brown. All the more reason to start inking a d tackle in free agency.

they also need WR help, so they may go that direction with one of the top WRs

So you don't believe in signing the best player in the league at his position to a second contract that lets you control him through his prime? I guess you're not a fan of winning games.
