The Dak situation is simple

For 4 years Dak was underpaid. This contract will be his FIRST big payday. He wants to ensure he gets ANOTHER big payday. A 4 year deal gets him back to the table for his SECOND big payday. His contemporaries (Wentz, Goff etc...) are already on their SECOND big pay day because they were high draft picks and got big money the FIRST time. This is really what all this is about.

If Dallas had a REAL general manager....that person would have known after 3 years what they had/did not have in Dak. If they were sold on Dak. They should have been sold after year 3....and we would not be in this predicament. And sold does not mean the QB won/went to a Super Bowl. Only 1 QB wins the Super Bowl every year. And there are PLENTY of QBs that have gotten their payday without winning a Super Bowl (Stafford, Ryan, Garapalo, Sam Bradford etc...)

Its simple...do you think you can ONE DAY win a Super Bowl with Dak....YES or NO. If YES...get the deal done after year 3. if NO...start working on a replacement

I disagree because I think Dak was still a hard call after 3 seasons. He had one excellent season as a bus driver, one substandard season, and one season somewhere in between. With that said I’m pretty sure that the morons in charge don’t really pay attention to what’s going on down on the field and were probably sold on Dak since 2016. So you’re correct that they should have been able to avoid all this.

4 years or 5 years? If the money is agreed upon as we have read and the holdup is really all about 4 or 5 years, the team needs to suck it up and do the 4 years. The team’s salary structure won’t collapse just because Dak gets another payday in 4 years. First, he has to earn that next pay day, and if he does, great! Pay the man. If he doesn’t, great! Move on.

Dallas made Dak a huge offer as a starting point. If Dak came back and said "just match Wilson's AAV and I'll sign" this would have been a done deal.

You are right that this is simple. Dak wants a ton of money and he is going to wait for the market to turn to get it.

To me, it could have been simple. I would have laid the contract numbers for Goff and Wentz on the table and matched or slightly increased all the highest numbers in return for a 5 year deal and a structure that helps the team cap wise for this year and next. The next thing out of my mouth would have been "take it or leave it". If he takes it, great. If not, I would have used the non exclusive tag on him and told him we will find out whether or not being the QB of the Dallas Cowboys is important to him. If you can get more elsewhere, fine, we will be happy with the extra picks and some other guy who can throw a football can have his agent approach all your endorsement companies and slide right into the post playing days cushy TV gig pipeline that has materialized for high profile Dallas Cowboys.

What does having a "real GM" have to do with it. Dak would pull this with any other team and their GM's. It does not guarantee he would have been signed already.

And you forgot to include Wentz in your list of QB's getting a pay day without winning a SB. :lmao:
Re-read. I did include Wentz. And I guarantee you that if they had approached Dak after year 3 with 32/33m...he would be signed. Dallas wanted another LOOK...because they don't know what they have/don't have. In fact...they probably approached him with 25 - 27m...and Dak and his people laughed it off. So a REAL general manager is necessary to avoid this situation. The Commanders did not have a REAL general manager. And you saw the fiasco that was Kirk Cousins...that they eventually tried to "fix" with the Alex Smith contract...and if you look at the money they paid Cousins to franchise him 2 years...then the money they paid Alex Smith after Cousins walked...then the money/draft capital they spent on Duane Haskins because Cousins walked, Smith got hurt...THIS is what happens when you don't have a real GM. Unfortunately for Washington...it took all of that for them to decide they had enough of Bruce Allen. Unfortunately for Cowboy fans...we will NEVER get another GM...no matter how badly things are botched!

Dallas started contract talks before last season.

I don't get this underpaid for 4 years thing, if you want to get paid more put together a better Collegiate resume and get drafted higher. Dak has too many what the:eek: moments, that has to be considered doing negotiations.
they could have signed him to an extension PRIOR to his contract coming to an end...he had EASILY outperformed his contract. Just like they can cut you ANY time you underperform your contract

36 mil is the most I’d consider for Dak. Let him be the highest paid QB for a short time. The market is gonna be reset soon anyway by Mahomes. If 36 mil can’t get it done then let Dak find a place that will pay him that and move on. Dak isn’t worth 36 mil anyway but that’s how these QB contracts work.

If the # of years is a sticking point as well then Dallas should be happy if Dak wants it shorter. If Dak proves to be worth it then pay him whatever he wants when the contract is up. If he isn’t worth it then allows you to move on from it sooner. I’d say make it 3 years with team option for year 4 and player option for year 5.

Dak will never "win" the championship for you

He will be the one not to "lose" it for you

How much that is important to you is the real question -

He could have signed an extension then too.

This is a two-way street. Dak has 0 incentive to sign for anything other than a market-setting contract.

This is true and I bet of you ask most pro Dak people how many games has he "won" where most would agree he put the team on his back they'd be hard pressed to find many games. People just get comfortable and just don't want to do anything more after that.

I think the only reason that dak and his agent are holding out, the only reason that the Dallas FO has not made a deal yet....is that they are secretly tracking how many threads about Dak can be created talking about the same basic thing.

Agreed. Also remember he get 20 million in endorsements, which comes with being a Dallas Cowboy. He also pays no state tax, which is huge over the life of a contract.

If he weren't getting handsomely paid for endorsements (that he only gets by being the cowboys QB by the way), I would give him some leeway. But the reality is that he apparently wants top level pay for every year he is hoping to play. Wonder if his siblings are pushing this so it increases their allowance. ?

The answer is no and not because I think it 100% impossible, more like 95%. Dak gets elevated by those around him, he does not elevate them. As such too many things personnel wise, coach wise, and matchup wise would would have to go right for Dak to win a SB. With Jerry involved in the process that will NEVER happen. 2016 was the best chance. Stars were aligned, didn't even have to leave the state of Texas. Had to play Aaron Rodgers. You know the rest.
