Our playmakers are on the offensive side of the ball and we have to hang onto them. Quinn was a big loss but we had to pay Amari and we still have Dak to sign. We’re going to have to bank on the draft.
That is where you and Jerry are wrong! We did not have to over pay Cooper. Paying big bucks to a guy who comes up very small in the biggest games!!

Also, we have it completely backwards. We put way to much money into our offense. We should be putting at least 50% of the Cap into our D. Traditionally the best defensive teams very consistently beat, if not dominate, the best offensive teams. The history of the Super Bowl is full of great offensive teams getting MANHANDLED by great or just very good defensive teams. Look at NE’s above average D vs the Rams 2nd ranked O. NE’s D dominated. Look at possibly the best offense of all time, NE with Brady and Moss got manhandled by a very good Giants D. The history of the Super Bowl is full of great offensive teams getting manhandled by great defensive teams. Remember the Raiders D dominated the Commanders unstoppable Fun Bunch! It goes on and on.

I would WAY rather have a great D than a great O. It’s obvious by looking at the history of the NFL great defenses consistently beat great offenses.

Our Triplets on offense will be expected to carry the team despite whatever defense we can field.

Jerry and Son have clearly laid out their priority and objective along with hiring an offensive minded HC and retaining our OC.
In particular...the RUN game keeping the defense off the field. We have too much invested in the OL and RB to turn back now.

With that said....do you need a 20m WR to do this? Do you need a 35m QB to do this? This is where the FOOTBALL people in that building are needed to make this decision. They have already decided you need a 20m dollar WR. So if you have the highest or close to highest paid OL, RB, WR and QB...theoretically the offense should be able to outscore ANYBODY...and if this organization thinks this will be the case...they have NOT been paying attention. We are NOT the KC Chiefs. It makes me sick to my stomach when I see how little VISION this organization has. The problem with Dallas has been and will always be...they don't need to WIN to make the most money. So there are ZERO repercussions for getting it WRONG! Which they have for over 2 decades!!

REMEMBER THE David Lafleur and Shante Carver picks? THATS JERRY AND STEVIE AND HOW THEY THINK. They try to save a buck thinking they can have a coach coach up a mediocre player and get the desired results. Its been 25 years of this.

David Lafleur was Troy Aikman's baby. He hand picked him and told Jerry to draft him.

Dak and Coop were always gonna be the priority....in terms of who gets first.
we'll know by the draft what the priority is.
sounds to me they want to "fix" the defense...which alot of folks on here were saying until Jones and Quinn left.
now apparently we won't address the defense.
disagree.
patience.

yeah..a good GM shouldn't really do that. Players typically aren't very good evaluators. Troy craped the bed with that one.Jerry is ultimately responsible.John Elway hasn't exactly lit the world on fire in Denver with his evaluations.

We always start these FA direction threads a little early. Let's let FA play out a bit and see if the team actually addresses the defense some.

They have to wait on the bargain basement free agents because Stephen and Jerry WAY over pay 4-5 players. We are losing good Defensive players to Free Agency right now, and cannot sign top Defensive Free Agents because of this FLAWED Cap Management philosophy!!
The NE way, as proven, is soooo much smarter. If a good player wants to much money, don’t make him one of the highest paid players at his position! Let him get over paid by someone else. Let him go, trust your personnel Dept. to draft well , trust your coaches to coach up the new players, and take advantage of your comp picks from the players you refused to overpay.
Our ownership gets scared and thinks we can’t win without this guy. Do you think Belicheat thinks this way HEL_ no!! He takes it as a challenge to coach his team up and win with a TEAM not a small handful of superstars. Hel_ Belicheat just let Brady walk!!!! His team will be very successful this year too.
Which is what we should do with Dak. Zeke is a better RB than Dak is a QB. Amari is a better WR than Dak is a QB. Dallas should have realized that we are not going to be able to sign Dak...and gotten picks for him. Then taken the 35 we were willing to pay Dak..and kept Quinn, Jones or whomever. Having the highest paid offense is not going to get us ANYWHERE...because Dak is NOT who many think he is!

It's run by follow the ball people and an offense is more fun for the fans to watch than a defense.

This is not new. Booger has craved his triplets since he thought that was the reason for the success of the early 90's team. Now he's got them and 2 of them are the top paid at their position but I am not convinced that 3rd one won't be as well before that deadline.

You’re wrong because Washington reportedly offered Cooper $22M per season. You have to pay receivers. Cooper has been terrific since he’s been here and he and Dak have worked well together. There were some issues with him not showing up on the road but he’s had a couple of very solid seasons for us and we couldn’t afford to lose him, especially after losing Cobb. As for the Rams offense in 2018 they lost Cooper Kupp and Todd Gurley wasn’t healthy. Kupp was their number one receiver. That offense wasn’t the same when they faced New England in the SB. Not being able to produce any offense cost them that game.

We’re a long way from having a great defensive team so we need to hang onto our offensive weapons. Our playmakers are all on offense. Our triplets on offense were the main reason we won those three Super Bowls in the 90s. Once we lost Jay Novacek and Michael Irvin those teams began to decline. You’re not going win games if you can’t score. Yes we need defense, that’s our weak link and we’re going to have to bank on the draft to try and fix it.

I think Cowboys priorities in terms of players who were going to be FA, Dak and Cooper they have secured. The opening of FA and the draft I do expect to see a heavy move towards defense. I like Byron Jones but come on he is now the highest paid CB in the NFL with only 2 career interceptions?

fix the defense and THAT will carry this team far, not Dak.

And we all know we cant realistically expect this to happen. Going to be 2016 all over but without the magic of the rookies.

Than if this is the case might as well draft Henry Ruggs III to play in the slot

This is ridiculous
Cowboys
Offense $118,887,679 Defense $58,394,007

Chiefs
Offense: $114,768,198; Defense: $85,374,92

49's
Offense: $103,219,974; Defense: $85,741,691

Keep in mind that one player is almost 40% of the Cowboys defensive cap use. The imbalance of the Cowboys roster is pretty significant. Although, the have a few players on defense who have not gotten to the end of their rookie deals yet. Then again this is just a sign or more problems in the future. With such a commitment of cap room to the offense, when X Woods, A Woods, Awuzie, Lewis and LVE get to the end of their rookie deals, most of them will wind of leaving as free agents.

I know what you mean. Dallas lost Jones and Quinn both getting damn good offers, Quinn was here on 7 mill dollar deal and leaves here for 14 mill, I hate losing him but no way would I pay him that much. Jones now the highest paid CB in the league despite the face he only has 2 career ints sorry I expect a top paid CB to be making the plays that change games and that has not been Jones. Dallas in my view is right in not trying to match those offers. Having said that they have a lot of work ahead of them of getting defensive players for Nolan
