The Dak situation is simple

As the OP said, Dak was underpaid the past 4 years. Despite being tagged, until he signs this tag he is unemployed. How do you like that Dak? If he wants to participate in team activities he will sign something, either the tag or a new deal. Leveraging being willfully unemployed to get a long term deal is no way to win the hearts and minds of Cowboys fans. Don't let this get any uglier than it already is, Dak.

For 4 years Dak was underpaid. This contract will be his FIRST big payday. He wants to ensure he gets ANOTHER big payday. A 4 year deal gets him back to the table for his SECOND big payday. His contemporaries (Wentz, Goff etc...) are already on their SECOND big pay day because they were high draft picks and got big money the FIRST time. This is really what all this is about.

If Dallas had a REAL general manager....that person would have known after 3 years what they had/did not have in Dak. If they were sold on Dak. They should have been sold after year 3....and we would not be in this predicament. And sold does not mean the QB won/went to a Super Bowl. Only 1 QB wins the Super Bowl every year. And there are PLENTY of QBs that have gotten their payday without winning a Super Bowl (Stafford, Ryan, Garapalo, Sam Bradford etc...)

Its simple...do you think you can ONE DAY win a Super Bowl with Dak....YES or NO. If YES...get the deal done after year 3. if NO...start working on a replacement
Thank you.
We have no real general manger/ talent evaluator/ team builder. It has been that way since February of 1994.
The Eagles pay their guys early, mostly it work out, Ertz, Wentz.

Jerry always pays his guys late and ends up paying more on older guys. He owns a 5 billion dollar plus organization but wants to use quicken to keep track of the books. Why do we not have the best analytics/ talent evaluation/ strength coaches in the league? There is not salary cap on front office spending.

This league is all about putting yourself in a situation to succeed. The Eagles made 4 straight championship games with McNabb, yes they only made one SB, but just give the team a chance.
The early 90's cowboys went to 4 straight championship games and went to three SB's.
We as fans fall for the same trick every offseason. There is no plan, no organization, no nothing.

We got lucky with Romo falling to our laps... what were the options before Sean Payton found him? Bledsoe, Quincy, Vinny?
We got lucky when Dak fell to us and Jerry begrudgingly drafted him? Romo got hurt, we had absolutely nothing.

I think that's the biggest problem. They know exactly what they have in Dak and the QB market has really been turned on its ear with the waning of the old guard of HOFers.

Why do people assume Dallas want to sign him to a long term deal? Garrett was Daks biggest fan. Things have changed. Maybe the new HC isnt sold on him. And even if he is a big fan, roster management 101 tells you that you dont sign a player to a long term deal if he has never played in your system AND you dont have to. Cowboys dont need to make a decision on a contract until early 2021. Yes, if he sets the league alight under MM it will be a little more expensive, but the risk of getting it wrong now is worth the price.

Thanks for the obvious explanation.

Anyways...

Get rid of him and get a real franchise QB

I got no problem with that. But why all of this posturing back and forth with 4 years or 5 years? Either way you look at it...clearly THEY think he is their guy...so get the deal done so we can move on. I am not the biggest Dak fan. But you are letting the free agent market dry up...and you got Cooper Rush waiting in the wings. The most valuable organization in all of sports is run like a clown show when it comes to assembling a winning product. But the reality is...they can put a loser or a winner on the field...and we will still watch and they will continue to make more money than EVERYBODY else
