What's your all-too-early grade thus far?

Sure, technically free agency just started, but our team, and the entire league, has made plenty of moves.

Based on who's still here and who's gone, how would you grade the Cowboys so far?

I'd have to give them a B+.

While there are some names I would have liked to see, I also give them credit for keeping Prescott and Cooper. I also give them credit for keeping Forbath at kicker and Looney as a backup interior lineman.

And I think the McCoy signing was an inspired steal.

Still work to be done, but I have to say they've gotten off to a good start.

What say you all?

A+ on letting the junk walk.....not worth all the money they got.......good for them...a few more need to be jettisoned....Crawford, Brown, Awuzie ( i know they both got contratcts)...and build through the draft. Yea sign a player here and there from outside but no longer break the bank. I am interested in seeing what kind of eye for talent mccarthy has for talent and evaluating it.....I'll give him a couple of years.....after 30 years, I still miss jimmy, cut the whole damn team and started from scratch to a dynasty...everyone lambasted him for that....for about 2 years...then they fell in love with him.

B-.

Still quiet on the secondary front outside of retaining their own.

I like the McCoy deal, and improvement over Collins, but still need a stable RDE added.
Gregory can't be suspended no more for weed, but I just don't trust him yet.

Plus still need more inside D help.

A solid C. Could be a C-.

The signing of our own thing is nice until you realize they were all part of last year's failure.

The only outside influence they have introduced is Gerald McCoy.

Sorry, it is going to take more to impress me.
:lmao:This made me spew milk.

While he's not a FA addition, replacing Quinn with Randy Gregory is an upgrade.
In my opinion, I think Randy is better than Quinn against the run, I really hope he does well coming back, but he’s also been gone for a whole year. And if he does well, I hope he stays with us! I like him, personally.

C

They kept Cooper but lost Jones. Got better at DT IMO swapping McCoy for Collins but got worse at WR losing Cobb with no replacement yet. They are clearly worse at CB as well. S might actually be worse as well which makes me laugh when you think about it.

So the get an average grade, which is a C.

So let me get this straight.......... a guy who hasn't played in 2 years and still might not even be ready to play in 2020 is an upgrade over a guy who had one of the best pass rush rates in football last year (granted he was blah against the run)?

That's some serious optimism right there.

If you throw in replacing Jason Garrett with Mike McCarthy I'd give this off season a solid A+ so far.
Yes indeed, the new coaching staff is being left out of the equation - McCarthy will have this offense rolling on all cylinders and he never really had a defense in GB. Hopefully LVE can play like rookie LVE and Jaylon matches that intensity, hopefully Tank can have a bounce back season with Gerald McCoy playing next to him & Randy Gregory is in good shape and can be an upgrade over that 1 trick pony Quinn. McKinney (Safety- Alabama) would be a big upgrade over Jeff Heath, and we can get a solid CB in the 2nd round (perhaps Trevon Diggs (Alabama) or Damon Arnette (Ohio state). We are going to be fine.

How have we gotten worse at safety? LOL the worst safety in the NFL is guaranteed to not be starting anymore.

DE, we just got better against the run. With McCoy signed we definitely got better.

Because you can argue Darian Thompson is worse than Heath. He couldn't even beat him out and right now Thompson is likely our starting SS.

And you know I don't even like Heath but it never crossed my mind that if they got rid of Heath they'd find someone who might be arguably worse.

Who's replacing jeff heath? Darian Thompson? And how'd we get better at the run at DE? With dorance Armstrong or joe jackson?

What's it going to be then, eh?

Very understandable. And some excellent points. There has been far more retention than pieces added. And even McCoy replaces Collins leaving for the Raiders.

Even with the grade I gave, I do recognize that they still need to do more at DE and likely CB as well.
Defensive end is critical at this stage, but outside of the draft, which is bad, I don't see solutions.

Anyone..............

Sure, Thompson is better than Heath. Not possible to be any worse. Any DE is better than Quinn against the run.

A lot of faith in guys that have never really played and a guy who hasn't played in 2 years.

And I like Gregory and argued that we should keep him when people were saying cut him. But I also am a realist and he hasn't played in 2 years. I am not sure you can just assume he's going to be better than Quinn. And Jelks and Jackson? They are more likely to join the list of overhyped practice players that never amount to much than they are of becoming better than Quinn.
