What's your all-too-early grade thus far?

C+/B-

-Resigning Cooper, Looney, Brown, Lee, and LP were all good moves at positions of need.
-McCoy was a good value sign and definitely boosts this grade up. I know we're not getting McCoy in his prime but he's still a productive player, and is probably the best DT free agent acquisition since Glover.
-Passing on ridiculous contracts for Jones, Quinn, and Cobb were also prudent moves but leaves holes.

So why not a higher grade? Simple, are we a better team from a talent perspective? No, as we have some holes to fill along the dline, CB, S, WR, and now swing tackle. There's still a lot of good options available and ones that won't break the bank either.

A solid C. Could be a C-.

The signing of our own thing is nice until you realize they were all part of last year's failure.

The only outside influence they have introduced is Gerald McCoy.

Sorry, it is going to take more to impress me.

Meh.....the league says differently. Failure yes. But our FA’s are being sucked up by everyone and four of our FA’s got top dollar.....Coaching problem, not talent.

Sure, technically free agency just started, but our team, and the entire league, has made plenty of moves.

Based on who's still here and who's gone, how would you grade the Cowboys so far?

I'd have to give them a B+.

While there are some names I would have liked to see, I also give them credit for keeping Prescott and Cooper. I also give them credit for keeping Forbath at kicker and Looney as a backup interior lineman.

And I think the McCoy signing was an inspired steal.

Still work to be done, but I have to say they've gotten off to a good start.

What say you all?
Anything minus Garrett is a plus for Cowboys!

Way too early for me to decide..

On the surface, McCoy is the only unexpected addition.

Anymore, our strategy has always been to let the early wave get bought up and we wait for bargain bin guys.

And anymore, I have to wait and see how the draft works out. Both things work hand in hand together to advance.

And also I want to see any cuts after the draft and see if that part of FA brings more help.

So I will contemplate and top off my gin and tonic with a twist and watch some video in the Draft Zone and dream.

I'm giving them a C or if converted to season record a 9-7. Lol

Line forms behind me!

My opinion is the Cowboys should be on the phone with him right now.

Maybe this has something to do with their lack of interest IF they are indeed not interested....

Personal life[edit]
Griffen and his wife, Tiffany, have three sons. Their oldest son, Greyson, was born in 2013 and their second son, Ellis, was born in 2015.[66] Their third and youngest son, Sebastian Gregory, was born on November 23, 2017.[67] On Thursday, September 20, 2018, Griffen and his agent were sent a letter from the Minnesota Vikings, stating that he would not be allowed back with the team until he underwent a mental health evaluation.[68] Two days later, on Saturday, September 22, Griffen was involved in an incident at Hotel Ivy where he had allegedly threatened to shoot someone because he was not allowed in his room.[69] [68] On September 25, 2018, it was revealed that Griffen was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.[70][71]

D-, they have followed a proven failed strategy of just signing their own FAs even if they are mediocre and pretty much ignoring top quality FAs.This strategy is why we have a bad roster which cannot play through injuries.

I give them an A.

They have kept Dak, Cooper, Jarwin, Looney, Brown, Frenchie, and Lee.
They signed an above average DT in McCoy for $4m AAV in the first week of FA.
They let guys that were long in the tooth or unproductive go like Witten and Collins.
The guys they lost like Quinn, Jones and Cobb signed massive 8 figure deals that will net 2 top 100 picks and a 5th in compensatory picks.

And of course they are not done. Normally they are not this active this early and we will see more moderate signing to come as they are wont to do lately. We should get a great haul of compensatories in 2021.

The biggest aspect of last years failure is gone. But that is easily glossed over if you'd rather just complain about things without being really honest about it.

I can guarantee that very very few have thought of this.

The importance of that is highly understated.

As of right now the Cowboys have 5 of the top 100 picks in April of next year.

C- right now, with the chance to improve that by what they do in the next few weeks.
Great, they Franchised Dak... only had a year and a half to come to terms, and now they have to hold that 31.5 million for him
Need to just do a deal. Give him his 4 years, reduce his total deal accordingly and reduce his huge cap hit. More money to spend a DE and Safety.
Love the McCoy pick up, but still more to be done.
Smart decisions elsewhere so far, but ham stringing yourself over the money when you've had this long is dumb.
If Daks agents dig their feet in and nothing gets done till July 15 I'll be pissed. All their fugalness to get us to being in position to really strengthen this team will have been wasted. No matter how good our draft is.

Didn't overspend to keep our guys, except Jarwin.
Didn't overspend on McCoy, but filled a big need. Filled a need with Brown. Reasonable salary. Forbath too. Happy to have Lee back.

Even with The GOAT gone, still waiting on SS.
Need a veteran WR backup, but expect a cheap one later. Sanders seems out of character.

The main thing in free agency, particularly the beginning, is not to overpay. We mostly did that while still getting some things done.

Very understandable. And some excellent points. There has been far more retention than pieces added. And even McCoy replaces Collins leaving for the Raiders.

Even with the grade I gave, I do recognize that they still need to do more at DE and likely CB as well.

I don't expect them to do much more with either DE or CB. Maybe downroster backups, then go to the draft willing to take DEs and CBs.

C+ so far....Offense is still in good shape but we've gotten worse at DE, CB, and S....but theres still time to improve
C+ so far for me too, basically average for the cowboys. mostly predictable, no bold move, they are conservative, which is sort of like
playing not to lose.
