Spectacular plays? The issue with Heath is I can remember every one of them.

They were few and far between.

No player has a spectacular play every time (not saying that's what you meant), how many has Dix had? Would be hard to measure, first of all what counts as a spectacular play? Has Dix had like three times as many as Heath?

I do agree Dix is an upgrade, but from the video (I didn't watch all of it, correct me if I'm wrong) but from what I did see it appears Dix was playing SS, Heath was the FS, Woods, et al, was the SS, so if that's the case we're not comparing apples to apples.

Also a bit concerning that Dix has played for multiple teams, if he's really good why didn't he stick with somebody longer?

But even assuming Dix is an upgrade, I think the Cowboys will still draft a safety by round 3, don't think they're that enthused about Woods at SS, he's not bad but isn't at a Pro Bowl level, at least not with Richard, maybe the new coaches will make him better..

True. A lot to do with scheme

Assuming Heath physically recovers, it will be interesting to see how he does on the Raiders. There's been several Dallas players that most were clamoring to be cut, then they go to other teams and do better or at least stick with the new team for a while, like M. Claiborne, T. Newman, etc.

Can't fault Heath for his effort, at least he tried his best. Not his fault he got put in a starting role for years when he should have been a nickel back/special teams player...

Total interceptions -- 19 for Dix (including 3 in the post-season playoffs), 9 for Heath.
That alone puts him above Heath.
Game-changing plays (putting the ball back to your offense) is what the secondary in Dallas needs.
Compared to Heath, Dix is a playmaker who can have impact in the secondary.

I despise these 1 year contracts. Especially for younger guys that are decent. It makes all the sense for players that are confident and will bounce back and zero sense for the team paying them to prove themselves. Essentially if Clinton Dix has a good year, he will be gone next. Zero continuity. Idiotic.

Get used to it. I think we are seeing the beginning of a new strategy being added to how they approach free agency and roster building. Bargain 1 year deals on players looking to have a good year and cash in elsewhere leaving Dallas to collect the comp pick. There are two sides to a free agent like Dix. What if you sign him to a 3-4 year deal and he isn't very good? Guys like him are available every year. Just keep signing vets to 1 year deals and hope they get paid somewhere else while you take the extra picks and build a strong core through the draft.

An upgrade over Heath should catapult the defense near the top of the league. High expectations for our defense since the worst safety in the league is no longer on the field. Combine that with Marinelli being gone and McCoy being signed and there should be no excuses for the defense anymore. A 3 & out also shouldn’t gas then for the next 2 weeks.

So now that we know Dix and McCoy are signed and I'm still hoping for Emmanuel Sanders at slot WR
where would you like to see the draft go ? I'm thinking 1-DT, 1-CB and 1-Safety. Maybe a WR too.

My biggest concern with this team in honesty is backup QB because I feel if Dak went down I just don't
see Cooper Rush winning a lot of games. I think we would be hurting.

You can’t have high priced players at every position. So you have 1 year, cheap band aids at some.

Meh. Clinton-Dix is slower than Heath, is afraid to lay the wood on someone, ducks his head while reaching for ankles, etc.

Hope the Cowboys pick up S Xavier McKinney with their first round pick. It would solve our Strong Safety problem for many years to come.

Ha Ha is far better in coverage and has anticipation to create INTs. Not a good tackler. But at FS all you need is a drag down guy and someone who won’t get run past. This is a solid upgrade if only because it indicated a shift in philosophy for our DBs to playmakers.

I see a guy with a little better recognition and anticipation than Jeff Heath but Heath is a better tackler when he gets there - assuming he takes the right angle. The problem with videos like this in a game where every play counts, we get to see everything a player does. The good and bad. In time we will see if Dix is better than Heath. I do think he will be better in pass coverage. Heath was always a few steps late getting over in coverage because his recognition skills are not great.

I am okay with the deal, but this is not the solution to the Cowboys problems on defense.

I was surprised to see Heath leave -- his contribution to Special Teams, when healthy, was significant -- but Dix is an upgrade, IMO.

As for continuity, it's a new defense and plug and play players are a sign of the times. I see it as a win-win.

I want to see us make a move for QB, but that's not going to happen. I like what you proposed.
