I just read a article about gregory
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...future-in-nfl-ill-be-back-for-good-this-time/

I have a new found respect for him. How he has stayed in shape and something that just opened my eyes about him.

This articles key points for me and why i think this team is going to end up going with him over any FA or drafted guy.

1. He has never been in trouble with the law, for his marijuana use or for anything else.
2. He's stayed in great shape apparently, and has even took up boxing to improve his hand use so hes not just sitting around moping but training anyway he can.
3. He has taken accountability, he says he knew he probably wouldnt have been reinstated until the deal was done. But says if he was able to vote on the CBA he wouldve voted no because he wasnt willing to harm the future of every other nfl player to better his own.

That says alot of this guys character. I think there is alot to this guy that we dont know. I think this is why Jerry has taken care of him the way he has. Last yr i read another article written about him and what hes gone through and he was harder on himself then even Goodell.

If he can get back on the field fast i think the NFL better watch out. When he came back from sus in 2018 he was alot more refined. I think this time he will be make another jump. The way he talks you can just tell he wants to get back on the field so bad. IM rooting for him, and cant wait to see him back

I would have liked to hear "I'm filing for reinstatement within X days."

Actually it was 7 but for some completely unfathomable reason, this was called roughing the passer instead of a sack. (Its the second video, just the way the tweet linked)

Gregory got some weird offsides once too. He was getting some bad calls for a while.

If he's reinstated, there's no reason why he shouldn't be signed to a reasonable contract. I'm perfectly willing to give him another chance with that being the case. Chances for him coming in ready seem promising, since he's been keeping himself fit. Yet, there's still the question of if Goodell will choose to give him his blessing to return. If so, it's anyone's guess when that might happen. We would do well to draft a promising rookie DE hopeful whether he's reinstated or not, imho. Depending upon Randy has never been a sure thing as yet.

I'm taking it one step at a time with Gregory, 6 sacks in a "break-out season" awhile back isn't that impressive.

While that’s true, he looked awfully good. Quinn has more sacks but in those last 6 games of 2018, Gregory looked to me every bit as good as Quinn if not better.

If anyone was ever entering a “prove it” season, it’s Randy Gregory in 2020.

We’ll see...

It is when you realize how little football he played. Not to mention 6.5 sacks came in just 45% of the def snaps
Cant just count actual sacks alone.

More than anything, he passed the eye test, and was a force at pressuring the QB in late 2018 and was a big reason, probably just behind the #19 trade, why the team was able to turn a losing record in November into a playoff run.

I'm with ya.

More than anything, he’s a troubled dude. But we haven’t seen anything to suggest he’s not a good person.
Charles Haley wasn't as bad a guy as percieved.

Either way, we shouldn't care.

The difference is Haley followed the NFLs rules, stayed on the field, and the rest took care of itself.

Would love to finally see something like this pay some dividends for Dallas.

Thank you for the post. We never hear enough about this guy. His story needs to be known.

true, I mean I don’t agree with weed personally but I don’t really care what others do either and I do understand a lot of people deal with high anxiety and a lot of them use other drugs or alcohol to deal with it. It’s a real problem for a lot of people that isn’t treated as a real medical issue. Seems like he might’ve been able to get a prescription or something for it?
It is super dumb for the league to be so far behind when many states have legalized it. Like getting busted for gambling in Texas after you come back from Vegas...

Randy Gregory is not a bad person. He just happens to have a serious mental illness that requires lifelong treatment. So I am rooting for him to overcome it.

I am glad he will be back.

That being said. The cowboys need to still address the position and not rely on him. Gregory being back should be a bonus addition. Not the gameplan.

I think Gregory by mid season will be our best defensive player. ( If playing and healthy of course ). He is a better pure pass rusher then Lawrence. What makes Lawrence so special that nobody on this board gives him credit for, is along with being a good pass rusher he is an even better run stopper.

I'm rooting for him, but I will feel a lot better about that position if they find a potential starter in a trade or free agency. I wouldn't want to have to count on him or any of the edge rushers in this draft class.

I'm rooting for Gregory but it says alot about this organization's front office if we're not making any moves in FA because they're expecting a guy who hasn't played since 2018 to get reinstated and instantly become the starter
We don't know if that's the case at all. Neither free agency or the draft have passed yet, so we don't know what the team will do.

Defense loses it’s 2 most productive players from last season in Quinn & Byron Jones. Going to be tough replacing either let alone both.

Yeah he was worse.

He will never reach his full potential like he couldve if he would have not been suspended at all. Experience is huge. And he missed out on a lot. Hard to have much respect for people like that. Wish the best for him though.

All good news. Not sure him admitting he would have voted no is a good sign.

If Gregory is staying in shape and not just smoking dope, then he is a beast no doubt. And as good against the run as the pass.

If the Cowboys go into the season counting on Randy Gregory, they are setting themselves up for failure.

He should be viewed as a guy whose contributions would be considered gravy, not the prime course.
