More endorsement money playing for America’s Team + a very favorable tax situation kind of balances things out.

I’m actually glad Jerry has shied away from his cap-damaging, big splash ways. JMO.

The tax thing is right , at least for half of their weekly pay checks but this idea that every Cowboy makes big bucks on endorsements is a pile of kaka. Not even all of the starters make big bucks on endorsements. Some make an extra 100K a year but that doesn't justify taking a couple of mil less just because it would be in Dallas. Yes the real big names make some bucks, but that's only about 3 maybe 4 that get the big bucks.

He wasn't cut, so signing him not only costs about 9 million per year, but also the 3rd round Comp pick.

I think when we saw Anthony Brown resign right after Trufant went to the Lions, the Cowboys planned their hand. They will look towards the draft to fill the need.

That's silly, they pay the market, otherwise they would not get anybody. So you are saying that McCoy took 50 cents on the dollar? Dix?

let's be real, they don't like paying, they look for bargains.

You’re right that few Cowboys make giant coin hawking shoes or yogurt, but smaller commercial ventures are at least an ego stroker. Most of these players are confident in their own abilities, and I would assume a good number of them believe they have a better chance of extra endorsement dollars in Dallas than they might in Jacksonville or Indy or a number of other locales.

In any event, I prefer the frugal, cap space approach to the Big Splash mindset. If they can land one or two more defensive difference makers and follow it up with a good draft, they SHOULD approach the 2020 season with a better coach AND a better collection of talent.

I haven’t gone through every comment but Logan Ryan allowed an 88 QB rating last year. That’s not good, but maybe it’s an anomaly.

He was off but still managed to set career highs w/120 tackles, four and a half sacks, four forced fumbles and 19 passes defensed last season.

His four picks were one short of his career high. He finished second on the team in tackles during the regular season and the playoffs.

Yea he’s kind of the opposite of Byron Jones. Byron locks people down but doesn’t get turnovers. Logan Ryan gets picks and can tackle but gives up plays.
