Probably not.

You should tell him.

Whether it does or not it appears that Frederick decided that football is no longer his top priority and is comfortable with walking away from it. I give him credit for deciding his family was more important than playing football and risking a type of injury that could affect him and his family in the future.

Pencil McGovern in as our new center. Williams back to LG.
Center was McGovern's secondary position. We don't even know right now if he can play guard at an NFL level.

This should concern you as a fan. It is not just something that we "prepared" for.

This has caught us about as flat-footed as Witten quitting right before the draft.

Very intelligent man who looked at the situation with his health how he probably feels today and how he thinks he can perform at center along with looking at the current situation in the country right now knowing that he has a pre-existing condition, and he decided to choose himself and his family over football. Good for him and i wish him nothing but the best

No way, put looney there at center, Williams doesn't belong at guard.
No offense to Looney, we saw more than enough of his cerebral capabilities at center in 2018. It was a mess. He can physically do the job, but if you have a clue, you should know it is more than that.

We will be alright.

Connor McGovern played both Guard and Center in college at Penn State. He has experience at both positions. Joe Looney will now be our starter. McGovern can be his backup even if he starts at Left Guard. Connor Williams has experience at both Guard and Tackle. If he doesn't start at Left Guard, he can be backup to both Guard and Tackle positions.

Man, this team....I came here hoping they finally signed a DT, any DT. Just to find out that not only did we not add anyone, again, we lost a very good player.

I hate this for FredBeard. It will be a significant loss to the team talent. But I think with the 3rd rounder we drafted last year we are going to be fine at OL.

Having said that, I think this may end up being a blessing in disguise. It’s going to eliminate some cap hit attributable to the OL.

This sucks and is a huge loss. Good news is we have the alleged best RB in the league so his absence should be minimal

Wow. Nothing but respect for his career and the decision he made to retire. His time with the Cowboys is one of the highlights of all my years as a fan.

It's not just about what he gave up. The center calls the protections (because Dak can't).

Most of those sacks were on Dak because he holds the ball forever and a day. But every year looks pretty much the same with Frederick. Not with Looney.
He actually held onto the ball longer per throw (2.88 seconds) in 2019 than 2018 (2.82 seconds).

Frederick's intelligence in the middle will be missed, but let's not forget about the struggles of Connor Williams, Sua Filo, and La'El in '18. Those three were credited with allowing a combined 19 sacks. Not sure all of those can just be attributed to missed protections.

That leaves a big hole on the OL. You could tell in several games he wasn’t himself last season. He lost a lot of strength. Can’t say I’m shocked by this news.
