or you're not understanding how he affects the game.
just a snippet
I think depending on who they sign or draft you see him taking a pay cut by adding year or so for about same moneyI dont understand either. I think we should keep him, he does a lot of dirty work that no one sees. But he needs to be cut down from 9.1 to 4.5. Dont forget he plays almost every pos along the D line. At that number he is a good guy to keep
Crawford actually volunteered for a pay cut to stay with team earlier in the year
No, Randy Gregory only started 1 game. And then was promptly kicked inside when Gregory started to play well in 2018.
He's not a great starting DE. Griffen is much better. Why not go out and get a better DE and then at least restructure Crawford and kick him back inside or let him float?
Seems like these long threads get debated in circles every few pages.
Someone wants to know why, someone answers with the probable and logical reason.
That gets buried. Rinse. Repeat.
BB gets it.
Crawford is a $9.1MM cap hit this year and would save $8MM if cut.
I'd love to get a few JW Blues in Jerry and listen to him explain why they value Crawford that much.

He's not a starting player for us. Lawrence is the LDE, McCoy is better and likely the starter at the 3T, Woods is bigger and more able to hold up at the 1T spot and Crawford is not a RDE.
I don't think Crawford is a bad player by any stretch. He serves a purpose and is a capable backup. But that's all he is........... a backup. And when you watch this organization penny pinch the hell out of FA, it's strange that they seem content on letting a backup DL eat up nearly $10MM in cap space.
There are two starting caliber RDEs out there in Golden and Griffen. Clowney would be a third if you want to think big. We lack a starting RDE. Cut Crawford (Or even restructure and save 4-5MM in cap space) and bring one of them in. Crawford would not be hard to replace in FA as there are some backup caliber DTs out there.

Crawford started the season at DT because Collins was injured. Taco started at RDE until Collins was healthy enough to start at DT. Crawford then started at RDE. He has started more games in his career at DE than at DT.
Do you guys even watch the games...
I'll say it again then..."Logic" has nothing to do with this situation. And it hasn't from the day this contract was signed.
I'll say it again then...
It's not as if department A is in charge of cap space and department B is in charge of talent acquisition and one is keeping the other from signing more help.
There is absolutely NO reason to cut Crawford until they need the cap room.
Long way to go in the offseason.
Lots of depth type players left.
Plenty of cap room to be made when needed.
He can be useful at a lower cap number, and if that's what they want to do, they are playing it right.
This argument has exhausted itself already.
