and he is assuming they DON'T have a plan...
im saying because we DON'T KNOW what we DON'T KNOW.....and with a competent coaching staff led by Mike McCarthy...lets give them a chance.
they're not done.

I hope not, but if we're talking today, we're talking about what is and what has been done, not what might or might not. That's an exercise in futility.

IMO the biggest issue with the defense last year was teams figured out how to attack the Marinelli/Richard scheme and those two never adjusted. @xwalker pointed it out early from film review.

A subset of that was the DT play because Woods and Crawford missed a lot of time and Collins was inconsistent. Having Poe and McCoy starting is a huge improvement, so the biggest part of our Achilles Heel will be fixed.

Firing OQuinn as Special Teams Coach was the best thing to address an Achilles Heel but that's a separate thread.
addressing the middle of this defense is a breath of fresh air from the previous staff.

I'm not as down on them as most here are. Big losses : Byron Jones (Solid CB, No ball skills), Robert Quinn (Great pass rusher, terrible run defender), Travis Frederick (Legend. But not the same player he once was). The rest are just very meh fringe players. Heath? Collins? Witten? Come on.

Big signings : HaHa Clinton-Dix, Gerald McCoy, Poe. Both will start at FS and 3 Tech. Both are upgrades over last years players. If Poe comes in and plays the 1, that is massive for the line.

So essentially your biggest glaring holes are RDE, #1 Corner, Slot receiver, Center. Ok cool. Rumor has it Gregory will likely be back. Awesome. So Gregory / Crawford can man RDE.

That leaves you with #1 Corner, Slot, Center. Spend your first two picks on (CJ Henderson and Tyler Biadasz or Matt Hennessy). Corner and Center are covered. Slot receiver can be found cheap in FA (Taylor Gabriel) or easily in this loaded draft.

Step back. Breathe. It's only March. This team will be fine after the draft with all needs filled.
Yeah, we're no worse in the end. Will really miss Fredbeard, but he wasn't feeling it.
Cool avatar. " I am the dread pirate Roberts!" Andre is so cool.

I'd say so much for the idea of Williams at swing tackle, if McGovern and Looney are competing at center.

Thanks, replacing those two are the biggest concerns for me as well.

But signing Poe and upgrading inside would give me a bit more optimism in that area. They may inevitably take a step back at RDE (though I hope that they would still then draft or sign someone there). But a starting group of Lawrence, McCoy, Poe, and say a rotation featuring a combination of Jackson, Jelks, Armstrong, Gregory and a rookie would help me feel a lot better.
agreed.
Chaisson is a real possibility at 17.
I'd feel better about this DE spot if they sign a vet...hell,Id welcome back Benson Mayowa...then combine that with a pick within the 1st 3 Rds.

if they don't add a CB via f/a before the draft...then that must mean they like Awuzie or Lewis...and in that case I hope they play at the '18 level.

The Cowboys plan: I sure hope McCarthy is better than Garrett. Let's give him the best team we can afford and see what happens.

Its actually not a bad plan. I doubt it will work but outside of completely blowing it up and rebuilding, is there another plan?

There you go with the name calling right away. Clear indication.

I don't agree with him. LVE was hurt most of last year. So was Lawrence. Crawford was out. Malik was also hurt. He's gone and we've upgraded that position. LVE if he stays healthy will improve the defense. Lawrence will be better and Crawford will be back. I don't consider losing Jones as big a blow as others. He was healthy last year and played every game and our defense was not good. Heath is gone. You've crapped on him like you've crapped on all the players. Dix is an upgrade there. Hill was a 2nd round pick and I think he'll play better this year. Jaylon gets a little better each year. I'm not surprised of your doom and gloom takes. We've all come to expect that with you. I guess you got tired of crapping on Dak and have now moved to the defense. So enough of the name calling and take a look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself "Why am I always crapping on everything Cowboys?"

Fantastic logic.

Our defense was mediocre last year. So it's not a big deal that we lost two of the better defenders from that D and haven't replaced them. I mean it's not possible that the defense could actually end up being worse, right?

On paper, right now, we are a worse team. We lost talent and didn't replace it......... yet. Dix was a good signing, despite your silliness in always saying I hate every Cowboys move. I've been lobbying for Dix for a couple offseasons now (as I did with McCoy last year). But we still have clear holes at CB and DE.

Now if the Cowboys bring in a Griffen and a real 1T, that's not a bad offseason leading up to the draft. But if they do nothing and just think the draft will fix all their holes, they likely are going to have a flawed roster again like they typically have year in and year out.

PS - It's really funny when you think about it. I lobbied for both Dix and McCoy last year a lot and you criticized me for saying we should sign these guys. But then we do bring them in a year later and suddenly those are smart moves. LOL.

PPS - So you can't pull some typical shady stuff, I am totally for bringing in Poe or Harrison at DT and Griffen or Golden at DE. I would think those are good moves.

Sounds like we have very much the same concerns.

And to date, they've done little to get better. He also says they will have to draft well so he acknowledges there is way out of this.

As much as people want to reject this analysis, his commentary isn't crazy or out in left field. We've lost more talent than we've gained. We don't seem particularly active right now in the second level of FAs and we have a history of doing just this........... largely sitting out FA with a signing or two and then thinking the draft will solve our problems.
"To Date" does not indicate intent. The posters suggested it did. All "to date" means is that the result - and intent - is yet to be determined. This was just a sensationalized commentary designed to suck in the reader. It apparently worked.

Since when does this team ever take care of their needs in the draft? They might hit on a guy but the rest is usually junk.,

I haven’t been as big a fan of our offseason as some, but that’s a Teri or analysis right there.

I never criticized you so quit lying. Not going to debate with you if you lie. That’s pretty low.

Dallas

The Cowboys defense was awful before the offseason began, and they seem intent on making it even worse in 2020! How about that? Two of their biggest contributors from a year ago -- pass rusher Robert Quinn and corner Byron Jones -- are gone. Sean Lee is back, despite his age and years of injury woes. They'd better hope Gerald McCoy makes a far more significant impact than he did in Carolina last year, or this thing might really crumble. Keeping Amari Cooper is nice, but wait until Dak Prescott is making $38M a year. It's going to limit the ability to do a few other things, and Jerry Jones has been paltry spending on payroll the last four years, anyway. They'd better have one helluva of a draft, and it had better lean decidedly to the defensive side of the ball. Their ability to stop anyone remains very much in question, and even all of the yards they rolled up a year ago were not enough to make them anything close to a contending team.

Writer has no clue. We need no defense.

We have Prescott who will light up the Scoreboard! Regardless of talent he is surrounded with.

Cowboys started the offseason by hiring a coach that has won a Super Bowl. They made sure their franchise QB and franchise WR didn't leave. They re-signed all their other key free agents. They upgraded over Maliek Collins with Gerald McCoy and upgraded over Jeff Heath with Ha Ha Clinton Dix.

La Canfora is right. What a terrible offseason so far.

We're going right back to the pre-Robert Quinn **** show at right defensive end and many fans seem to have no problem with that.

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

It's a Cowboys forum, not a Mensa meetup.

Not saying everything's great. It's week two of FA, not the end. There WILL be more signings.

A rare things when it comes to fans.
Fans generally aren't objective and that's okay. I don't think fans should necessarily be objective.
They're fans.

Analytical/Objective fans are okay too. I like them also.

We all stress to our own grooves.
