We've waited for many years to see the Cowboys build the right way

I can't say that I'm not excited to see how this Cowboys' squad shapes up. Finally having a real head coach, and finally putting some beef on the defensive line, the Cowboys seem to be doing a repeat of something they did in 1989;
Modeling the team in the mold of the San Francisco 49'ers- and maybe even the Seahawks.
This year's squad looks as if they will be built to overpower any team they come in contact with on both sides of the ball for the first time in many years. And that's how you build a football team.
I still have my reservations at quarterback; I don't know that Dak won't let us down when it's time for him to lead.
But what they are doing is looking like they are finally serious about playing some football.
And, maybe they'll even add a fullback before it's over. Maybe not.
But this is the first time I've seen them really build as if they knew what they were doing in a long time.

90s Cowboys defensive teams weren't all that big. They weren't really overpowering. Very fast but not overpowering IMO. Just my opinion thou.

Lol, the Kool Aid is flowing as Jerry is counting his billions due to a few signings after letting his best players walk. Love it!

One has nothing to do with the other. Jerry can't use his "billions" to pay players. He cannot pocket the cap money he does not spend. He is obligated by the CBA to spend the cap dollars. Jerry would LOVE to sign players freely without regard to the spending limits. He can't.

Furthermore, when he could spend his millions on player acquisitions, he did, i.e. 90's, pre-cap.

We are barely over a week into free agency, and the draft hasn't happened yet. Plus, we have to remember that not only does every team lose quality players at times, they often do not replace them with players of the same quality. That's not how it works. Sometimes the make up is in fortifying the unit as whole - one positions takes a bit of a hit, while another gets a boost.

As for players we signed that are aging, even if they aren't at the very pinnacle of their careers, they can still be high quality players and provide a considerable upgrade over what we have had. It doesn't make sense to think that age is a stand alone factor, and that simply by virtue of having reached a certain age they aren't worthwhile. There are a lot of players who are still very good once they reach 30 years old, plus most teams are filled with a mixture of youth and seasoned veterans, including the best teams, so why would that some how not work for the Cowboys as well? It just takes evaluating the individual players and the circumstances.
TBH, I don’t care how other teams are addressing their roster unless they’re in the NFCE
“ Letting his best players walk”? Who could that be? In my opinion none of the guys who left are irreplaceable. Most were “just a guy”. Byron Jones was good but not great and can certainly be replaced.
Let me get this straight, I’ve been hearing how “talented” this roster has been for the past few years and we just lost our best pass rusher and a corner that was widely regarded as one of the best at his position and the best in free agency yet a lot of fans think they can all be replaced rather easily and their absence isn’t that big of a deal.

Can you please explain this logic to me. Either the roster was greatly over rated (which is what I believe and have believed) or it was that good and therefore those players aren’t so easily replaced and parts of our defense will now be worse for it.

It's really amazing, to me, how often you hear that kind of stuff. Spending or not spending doesn't help Jerry directly. His personal finances are not linked to the cap but I guess it makes good talking point. IDK.

.....in the slew of building the right way. How many careers were wasted? The Jones's are guilty.

I was being somewhat sarcastic. Amazing that the Cowboys are the definition of mediocre yet are one of the most profitable teams in the world. Jerry obviously continues to impress and awe by doing practically nothing.

Lol. I love some Cowboys bashing. That said, while older, McCoy and Poe are astronomically better than Collins and Woods. Plus McCarthy is going to show everyone how pathetic Garrett is and was.

A good draft and working out the Dak deal and this team will contend. I am certain of this.
Ha...surprised you’re not as pessimistic as I am. Ironically, that almost makes me positive

Jones will be missed. Unless someone else steps up their game, there'll be a dropoff.

Quinn is a good pass rusher, but dreadful against the run. Let's see what we do with RE. With the improved DTs, the loss in pass rush might be a wash and we should be much better against the run.

Losing Cobb stings but he's replaceable. The rest of what we lost wasn't that good.

Because of the cap, every team loses players. It happens. Rather than declare doom, why not see what they do in free agency in the draft first?
Dallas losses more players because Jerry and Stephon over spend on certain players( Zek, Lawrence, Cooper, etc. )

I am willing to give Big Mike a chance, though.

We had NO hope with Garrett!

The point wasn't that you should care what other teams are doing, but rather that you shouldn't treat the Cowboys dealing with something that every team has to deal with as if it is a problem created by the Cowboys. Every team deals with it because it is inherent in the way the NFL works.

I was with you right up till you questioned Daks leadership. He's come through on more occasions.

My point is teams deal with it differently. For example, we’re the only team dumb enough to pay a running back the most ever for that position while letting a much more skilled position walk away.

Lol is right, I agree with you to that point.
Jerry is finally counting how many years he has left on this rock, and he is finally handing over the reins to actual football people that are in touch with todays game.

not sure I agree. The best players are under contract - Dak, Coop, Zeke, DLaw, Martain, Smith

Brought in a real head coach and let him pick his staff

upgraded a safety & DT

The big lost was B. Jones. I get that one hurts but you cant have everything. There is a cap.

Quinn & Cobb hurt but you have to be able to find those guys in the draft, trade or free agency. I think it was more important to improve at DT. Besides Gregory looks to be coming back.

I have to say the Front Office is having a great offseason

lol... for the last few years this team has been nothing but put together in the mold of 1989 through the 90's, You cried that it was ancient. You talk about the Seahawks, this team has been trying to emulate the Seahawks for the last few years.
