I remember when people were melting down because the Cowboys took a center with a 2nd round grade at the butt-end of the 1st round like it was some kind of travesty.

Turned out to be one of the better picks in recent memory. Can't fault the guy for being blindsided by an obscure neurological problem out of nowhere that has a 1 in 20 chance of fatal complications.

I'm not at all surprised, what DID surprise me was that he was able to come back and play last season. He's a tough dude, I wish him nothing but the best.
I don't blame the man from hanging it up like he did, is bank account allows him to make that decision.
Very rare disease, unless you have it you cant comment on how bad it makes you feel, we don't know, media definitely doesn't know.
I just hope Beard made the right choice, gets better health wise, and eventually has no regrets about this decision.

I'm willing to bet he returns next season.

The guy has an immune deficiency, and doesn't need to be risking coronavirus in training camp a few months from now.

He very well may return in time.

This is why I have those, well, won't say it, but it is why I have them on ignore. Makes it so much better not seeing it day to day.

I don't care for Spags, but this article was good. When someone does something good, it's good for the soul to commend them, especially if you don't like them.

So someone who writes for his company's chief publication pumps out roses and sunshine stories about employees of the company.
And people expect him to do anything less? And they think they would write negative articles about the company and retain their jobs, especially writing for the Dallas "Freaking" Cowboys?

Spagnola: Travis Knew When To Walk Away

rt1lkqvfvenrjlvipaph

SHELTERED IN PLACE, Texas – At first blush, my jaw dropped.

Travis Frederick is going to retire?

Then my mind raced. What's this going to do to the Cowboys salary cap?

Then, how in the world will the Cowboys replace him? Centers who go to five Pro Bowls are not easily replaced. In the infamous words of Bill Parcells, you can't just go down to the neighborhood Texaco and pick one up.

And finally, being far less concrete it was this: Bless his soul. What a brave man. A lucky Man. Frederick gets to go out on his own terms. Not many are afforded that privilege. And I'm not just talking professional athletes. All of us most likely. Heck, think about all of our amateur athletic careers. If you love it, you didn't quit easily. Usually someone cuts you.

I would not be surprised if he comes back next year.

I think not being 100% during the pandemic tilts the scales.

If Fredbeard gets back fully healthy, there's a chance he comes back, but I can also see him figuring that he has all the money his family needs, and he'd rather just raise his kids. I'm surprised that more people with boatloads of money don't do that.

A lot of players are choosing to retire early. Maybe it’s one of the reasons why Prescott doesn’t want a long contract. He wants to enjoy his money while he is healthy

Being under contract does not keep a player from being able to retire...

He heard about the upcoming Dak contract, and realized Super Bowls would have to be viewed on television rather than played in!

If you have integrity and you’re doing it correctly it does. You didn’t look at the whole picture. Maybe he cares A little bit more than someone who’s just going to quit

I just hope he didn't retire because he knows something about the team we don't and doesn't want to be a part of it.

I found out FredBeard lives in the neighborhood next to mine. Saw him when I was walking my dog.
